Replying to @bita137 @hubermanlab
It's also absurd to think that scientists are "wasting taxpayers money". The amount of $$ funding the NIH is a drop in the ocean compared with the military/industrial complex. The Pentagon couldn't find a few billion dollars due to a clerical error! responsiblestatecraft.org/pe…

It has been challenging to watch this story of a friend and fellow lab member unfold. There’s so much I want to say but I’ll just expand on two important aspects of this experience I’m seeing others discuss, as well.
Science is built on trust. What happens when someone destroys it?
My first feature for @_TheTransmitter investigates the emotional and existential fallout for one lab in the aftermath of a misconduct case.

What proteins surround PIEZO1 on the cell surface? We used a mass spec proteomic approach to capture a snapshot of the PIEZO1 interactome. One of these candidates, CADM1/SynCAM, slows the inactivation kinetics of PIEZO1 with little effect on PIEZO2.

I just learned that Harvey Karten passed away.
As a PhD student writer for @NeuWriteSD, I had the honor of interviewing him in 2015. His candor & passion left a huge impact on me -- even as an emeritus professor, he was still obsessed with brains.

I gave the DEI keynote at this year‘s @SBNTweets, emphasizing the importance of being values-driven scientists. We have a role to play in lab and in society. In the final slide I prompted my colleagues to reflect on this in light of what’s happening in the world.

I’m surrounded by many of the most brilliant minds on the planet .. Over the weekend can we collectively take a few minutes and solve the issue of “Child Care being more expensive than rent”.
Address it locally first. Solutions.

In people w/ Alzheimer's, blood vessels are tortuous and irregular just like what we reported in tau models in 2018. In our new work, we show that there's a lot more perivascular tau than previously thought. Read about clear brains + vascular tau here: link.springer.com/article/10…

When “best” is measured with h-index, it really means “most visible/most cited”. This is why we do what we do to increase the visibility of women in neuroscience!
We have a long way to go.
1 in 10 of the top 100 ‘best’ scientists are named Michael or Eric, but only 3% are female, according to @guide2research. Putting aside the obvious flaws of the H-index, these numbers are disheartening. Thanks to @mbeisen for sharing. research.com/scientists-rank…
