Striking detail in the big NYT piece on Taiwanese families adjusting to working at the huge new TSMC chip plant in Arizona: their surprise at the lack of rigor in US schools.

NEW: I obtained the full Trumbull County file for Amy Acton's stepfather's 1974 charge which shows that he was indicted for incest involving his 16-year-old biological daughter in 1973. The sheriff was then unable to locate him to serve him a summons in the county and nothing further happened in the case.
Donna Arthur, featured in Vivek Ramaswamy's still-running campaign ad, married Cledith the next year in a neighboring county.

"The same people who insist on policing public bathrooms to protect little girls [are] smearing an actual child rape survivor," writes @crampell.
It sums up "the broader Trump agenda: professing support for the vulnerable while shielding their abusers." thebulwark.com/p/trump-cruel…
NEW: It's not just Amy Acton. Trump has been dismissive or cruel or damaging to victims of sexual assault whether personally or as a matter of policy. A must read on the moment from @crampell

Important from @crampell.
"That Trump would now choose to try to discredit a child sex-crime victim is unsurprising. He was a close friend of Epstein...He has no qualms about throwing abuse survivors under the bus if doing so helps him politically."

This is strange. I was told the foreign countries pay the tariffs, so why would this help in the election?

I mean, if Starshield can be throttled in Ukraine, can it also be throttled in the Persian Gulf or around Taiwan if Musk disagrees with this or that military operation? The mystery of the last week certainly raises the question.

The far right would like you to think that Norman Rockwell was a sort of friendly neighborhood white nationalist. The thing is, he was nothing of the sort. From the archives, @crampell interviews Daisy Rockwell:

This is the standard way to score tax policy. You score the law as written (in this case a one-time wealth tax) and the behavioral consequences from that law (people worried it will last moving).
There are arguments against that approach. But is not “highly inappropriate” or “dishonest” to do what JCT or any other neutral body would do.
Replying to @gabriel_zucman
Let’s be clear: this is a highly inappropriate way to model the effect of Prop 40 on taxpayer behavior.
For one, it’s a basic violation of rational expectations, a cornerstone of modern economics.
In Jaros and @joshrauh world, the billionaires act irrationally: they respond to a policy that does not exist and will never exist.
Economics students around the world are taught this is not an appropriate way to model behavior — but apparently in this context (fighting Prop 40) it’s OK.

Schumer has spent $35 million. How much has Sanders spent out of his $22 million warchest in Michigan?
Rep. Ayanna Pressley in MI just praised AOC for the $1 million — and ripped DSCC.
“The DSCC should take note because it is shameful that we are not seeing an equitable investment in progressive and diverse candidates like Abdul El-Sayed, like Angie Nixon, like Scott Colom.”
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
DSCC has invested $16 million to date electing Abdul El-Sayed, according to its own statement. Senate Majority PAC has spent or committed tens of millions more in support.
