Baseless argument. Do yourself a favour and visit construction projects where contractors comply with COIDA and labour legislation. Visit the multibillion rand infrastructure projects being delivered by South African workers, then come back and repeat this nonsense.
Your limited experience is not a reflection of the work ethic of South Africans.
UNPOPULAR OPINION: As someone who has worked on several construction projects with both locals & foreigners. I can safely conclude that most South African labourers in this industry lack work ethic compared to guys from Zimbabwe and Mozambique. Most construction guys I have met prefer to hire foreigners for that reason. Most have tried to prioritise locals, but they always disappoint. Ke senya ke realo 🤷🏾♂️
I blame scriptwriters than actors and actresses themselves. Story lines and plot twists are predictable, copy and paste and mediocre
I have no doubt he is going to make an excellent lawyer. He has an advantage over many new lawyers as he was a journalist for many years and is used to debating or interviewing politicians, business people, and laymen on the streets

They taught African children, in colonial schools, that their continent had no history before Europe arrived.
Let that sit for a moment.
They took children whose grandparents had lived in functioning kingdoms, whose oral traditions carried the history of empires spanning centuries, whose communities had legal systems and agricultural science and trade relationships and philosophical frameworks for understanding the world.
And they sat those children in European-designed classrooms and taught them that their past was darkness.
That their ancestors had been waiting. Waiting without direction or achievement or meaningful civilization. Waiting to be found.
That the story of their people began when Europeans arrived to begin it.
This is not ancient history.
The generation of Africans who received this education are alive. Their children are alive.
The psychological work required to recover from being taught that your people had no history.
To excavate your own past not from lived memory but from archives that were often kept by the people who had the strongest interest in what was and wasn’t in them.
That work is ongoing.
And the people who created the need for that work are still explaining that colonialism, on balance, was not so bad.
Exactly, they always accuse blue collar workers of lacking "work ethic" and never accuse accountants, lawyers, doctors, engineers, etc. It reeks classism
A gain, it's very difficult to respond to you, if you point what you're disagreeing with me i will respond to that directly. At the moment you're just lumping up sentences are senseless to me
Replying to @credit_notee
Becoz the responses that say " South Africans will ask for lunch hr/tea break etc" is a bit silly honestly!
Take a month and visit Construction sites!
Or, go to industries like fishing. You will see for yourself. Throwing stones over the fence without facts is silly
What's your point Mokone, i don't get it from your statement
Replying to @credit_notee
You speak like you have NEVER been to a construction site or done any projects!
Construction sites are NO longer the Apartheid ones, where a white man in shorts, well-fed, stands there "BELLOWING" orders!
It is a woekplace! With HSE, LRA, and everything

I work in construction too and you're right.
Local guys will speak up about safety and long hours. Foreign guys can't, so they just take it.
But that's not better work ethic, that's just fear of job-loss.
I might be missing your point, what's your definition of work ethic?

By lack of "work ethic" yuo mean South Africans will insist on ne hour lunch, knock off at 17:00, or demand overtime. take sick leave, etc. You start to sound like white people

They called it the "Dark Continent."
Understand what that phrase was doing.
It was not a geographic description. European cartographers had been trading with coastal African kingdoms for centuries. Arab scholars had mapped the interior. Timbuktu was a name known across the medieval world.
The darkness was not in Africa.
The darkness was what Europe needed Africa to be.
Because a continent of kingdoms required a justification for conquest that a continent of kingdoms could not provide.
So the kingdoms were removed from the map.
Not literally. Rhetorically. Historiographically. From the textbooks and the lectures and the philosophical frameworks that decided what counted as "civilization" and what counted as nature waiting to be claimed.
They didn’t arrive in darkness.
They brought it.
And called it light.

South Africa is also a great example of what happens when you have a functional country in a continent that is filled with failed states. It dictates the migration pattern of that country and places it under enormous pressure and the people who bare that pressure are the poor.

Muslims, let's stop lying to ourselves.
Most Muslim countries are not tolerant of other religions.
In Saudi Arabia, a Christian can't build a single church.
In Pakistan, mobs burned more than 20 churches in one day in Jaranwala over a blasphemy rumour.
In Iran, Baha'is are barred from university just for what they believe.
Meanwhile the UK has nearly 2,000 mosques, and nobody is burning them down.
We demand tolerance everywhere we're the minority.
Then refuse to give it everywhere we're the majority.
That's not faith. That's hypocrisy.
