So a16z Crypto becomes a16z Frontier Saw a lot of debate yesterday about whether this is good or bad news for the crypto industry I'm gonna go with "bad news". Make no mistake here, a16z has always been a top notch fund and one of the pioneers of crypto investing The fact that they are expanding "beyond crypto" is another very bad sign for the industry = and as a crypto guy I am interpreting this as negative news because it explicitly mentions their fund will focus on "other investments". Btw I've listened to the interview with Chris Dixon, one of their key investment partners. Guess what, he barely mentioned crypto at all during this interview, it's all AI this, AI that [Btw Kyle Samani leaving Multicoin and saying "maybe blockchain is just a ledger after all" was an early warning too] Now a16z doing this "expansion" is yet another testament to the fact that this industry is not serious, not sustainable and becoming less and less profitable by the day, therefore it's only natural they're moving into AI (or rather AI+crypto combo) When I said it was bad news, I didn't necessarily mean it was bad news for everyone. It's bad news for "airdrop enthusiasts" in particular a16z was among the VCs backing some of your favorite projects with the sickest airdrops in this industry's history: dydx, Optimism, LZ, Aptos, Jito, etc (just look at the distribution figures) Notice how most of these huge airdrops came from the L1/L2 infra meta, now many of these pjs are either dead or built out. The days of helicopter money are behind us and are likely never coming back. Why? Because there's nothing interesting for the big VCs to invest in. Now only small VCs are active, but the projects they invest in are nothing to write home about When it comes to big VCs, let's dig deeper: when was the last time Paradigm invested in a fresh new crypto project? When was the last time Polychain invested in a crypto project? Do you see where this is going? Pretty sure those funds have also shifted their focus away from crypto-only (fully or partially), they just haven't announced it publicly Here's the most important question: why were we making money from airdrops in this industry in the first place? Because VCs like a16z, Paradigm, Polychain, Multicoin enabled us to do so. Let's just admit it - most of the money we made was thanks to these funds in particular You may not have realized this yet, but the easy times are slowly coming to an end

airdrop farming might be the biggest waste of time in crypto rn a project can shut down its discord overnight your country can get excluded from the drop spamming transactions onchain barely doesn't mean shit anymore you can spend months farming points just to get $47 but building your CT account is always going to be EV+ > every post compounds > every connection matters > every bit of attention you build becomes an asset you own and no one can take that away from you it might take longer until you see financially meaningful results but once you do you will thank yourself for the decision
