Thank you @FreedomHouse for your solidarity with the over 1,350 Cuban political prisoners currently unjustly imprisoned by the Castro dictatorship.
Cuba has 1,350+ political prisoners today, more than 140 more than in January despite repeated regime announcements of prisoner releases early this year. Repression is rising, not receding. Freedom House calls for the immediate release of all political prisoners. #FreeThemAll

It was such a wonderful evening at the @NED to be one of those honored by the October 30th Coalition for our work to free political prisoners over our careers. It was made all the more special to be with my former clients Felix @Maradiaga (#Nicaragua) (and his wife @BertaValle who introduced me), @Jschamorrog (Nicaragua) (and his wife @VickyCardenasL), @liliantintori and @antonietamlopez (#Venezuela) (@leopoldolopez's wife and mother), and @yangjianli001 (#China). These are some excerpts of my remarks: "It is a tremendous honor to be recognized ... but this has never been about me. It has always been about the #PoliticalPrisoners and their families, the most effective advocates for themselves and for their people ..." "It has been the honor of a lifetime, with my stellar team, to stand in solidarity with, support, and be inspired by the #humanrights heroes of our time." "It brings me such joy to be here tonight with my former clients and their spouses. Each showed courage, grace, and dignity under unimaginable pressure. I risked only defeat; they risked their lives and they persevered. They will forever be my sisters and brothers ..." "Every win is a collective win. No one can say what finally opens a cell door: a UN judgment, a president’s phone call or tweet, a diplomat’s quiet word, or even the prisoner themselves. And as for me, I have simply tried to do my part ..." "So I leave you with a strong sense of optimism. In every generation, in every country where people face repression, there are those who risk everything to speak truth to power, to demand justice and accountability, and to inspire others to join the fight."

In #Cuba, political imprisonment goes far beyond prison walls. It reaches into classrooms, workplaces, homes and the minds of millions forced into silence by fear. On International Day of Political Prisoners, my op-ed explores why every Cuban lives in a prison without walls. thebureau.news/p/in-cuba-eve… #Canada #HumanRights #InternationalDayOfPoliticalPrisoners #PresosPoliticosDeCuba

Today's meaningful program was filled with hope, positivity, and community. Led by @ekaramurza, @bertavalle, @liliantintori, and other remarkable advocates. Thank you for building connections between former political prisoners, the families of current political prisoners, and frontline defenders. @VMehrannia had the opportunity to share her story as the leading voice for her husband, Ahmedreza Djalali. #FreedomStartsWithAName

Thank you, @TLHumanRights, for your bipartisan leadership in shining a light on the plight of political prisoners around the world. On Political Prisoners Day, we stand with those unjustly imprisoned for exercising their fundamental freedoms and their families. Their voices must not be forgotten. #FreeThemAll
Today is the International Day of Political Prisoners. Peaceful expression and human rights advocacy are not crimes. Those imprisoned for exercising these rights must be released immediately and without conditions.
