obviously manipulation shouldn’t be excused on grounds of mental illness but trying to tone-police an active split is applying rational logic to the irrational. people can manipulate on purpose, and people can act in extreme ways to avoid distress that will read as manipulation
bpd is notoriously a disorder that is near impossible to regulate alone. because it stems from chronic invalidation trauma, it makes sense that the individual who never learned to self-soothe will rely so heavily on external crutches (other people). this is why DBT is important.
