A critic could very much argue, and rightly so, that Jesus passively — and that this is enough to condemn him — encouraged slavery. Jesus did not explicitly condemn or call for the abolition of institutional slavery, and frequently used master-slave relationships as parables.
Jesus lived 600 years earlier in a far more unrefined era, yet He never owned a single slave. What is most startling about Christ is how He entirely bypassed the cultural traps of antiquity. He easily could have engaged in the socially permissible norms of His day that age horribly now; like marrying a minor, or owning and sexually exploiting slaves. But He didn’t. He lived with absolute moral perfection in a time when the ethical bar was on the floor, and His standard remains flawless today. He is God.
Moral perfection in this instance, especially as reported by the OP, would logically include, without exception, the rejection of slavery in all latent & obvious manifestations. He would have spoken about it, stood firmly against it, and his death would have been attributed to it

How could he have owned slaves when he was a pauper? He wasn't part of the elite! He was just an apocalyptic prophet who believed the(ir) world was ending soon. His lack of slaves wasn't necessarily due to a moral imperative but because he didn't have/need the means/motivation to keep slaves!

When I was 18 I bought a copy of The Critique of Pure Reason at a Barnes and Nobel. I thought it'd be a good idea to get stoned and read it. Figured it'd be a cool experience.
I didn't understand a fucking word of it.
This is why it is easy to prey on Americans. First, what the fuck is a trip to Africa? Africa where? South Africa? East, West, or North Africa? What country?
Besides, there are approximately 49 million domesticated pigs in Africa, which would remove the “they flew in..” nonsense.
My uncle did a mission trip to Africa to teach a village how to raise pigs for food.
They flew in with a bunch of pigs, built pens for them, Food and water troughs, and taught them how to breed them so they could always have meat. Two weeks of work and teaching.
They went back a year later to check on the village. They had thrown a giant party the night after my uncle left, slaughtered and ate all the pigs, sold the feeders and fencing, and were really pissed off that the mission didn't bring them more pigs.
I need some clarification on this issue. The “Messi robbed so-and-so of the Ballon d'Or” accusation in particular: did Messi rob those people because he lobbied for it himself, bought the award with his own money, or because he refused to hand over the award to these people?

If we let China become a cultural hegemon, a third of our Instagram reels will be apologies to the CCP.

I quit my job, sold my house, scrapped my car, maxed out my credit card, abandoned my kids, fled the country, burned my passport, and renounced all wordly possessions to finish reading Kant.
Okay, but Mao was a dictator, a historical fact and a personal admission. This whataboutism and binary thinking annoys me. America's first president owned 300 slaves. All right? That is morally objectionable. Mao also murdered millions of people in cold blood.

Phil's explanation is excellent, but the quick and dirty version of Hume's "Of Miracles" is that it's a warning against the base rate fallacy. If a witness is 99% reliable but the event they describe has a 1-in-10,000 prior, your posterior should be <1%. Don't believe them!
As we consciously resist even the latent manifestations of communism, we should asseverate, even more fiercely than we did earlier, against its malevolent cousin, Pan-Africanism. Ideologies rooted in delusional salvationism are dangerous for this reason alone.
