At La Jolla Shores this morning to gauge the impact of the Kelvin wave on high tide. It seems to have raised it to the level of a very high tide, but not quite a #kingtide.
Second lecture on Kelvin waves in my Intro to Mathematical Modeling class @UCSDMathDept @UCSDPhySci @UCSanDiego. Explained the “passive deep water approximation” and the Coriolis effect terms in the pressure acceleration equations.

Very soon, if ABC can't be autoformalized after FLT and this, then it will be a clear signal.
HUGE result by the team, congrats everyone! Largest @leanprover codebase to date. Let's formally verify everything.

Not even two months after the Navier–Stokes result, and now OpenAI claims their internal model refuted the Exponential Time Hypothesis. Haven’t worked in TCS, but if this holds up it would be enormous, a lot of hardness results in the field rest on ETH. It is the first result I heard to make the usual 'NP is exponentially hard' intuition look shakier. Wild pace.
For those who don’t know, ETH is the hypothesis that 3SAT needs exponential time. Very surprising and consequential that it is false.

2/2 Low pressure 949 millibars was a very deep low. Anticipate storm surge! Combined with the full moon’s spring tide it was an exceptional event. Why was nobody in Renfrew Council or SGoRR (Scottish Government Resilience Room) monitoring the storm and pulling out all the stops?
Your barometer was right - here’s the pressure chart midnight last night Low 949. And a full moon spring tide and W wind too. Next high tide around 11.30 this morning though the centre of the cyclone will no longer be so close to the Firth of Clyde as it’s moving towards Norway.

.@Reuters has great idea to name heat storms. I was going to suggest Lucifer, Beezelbub, Belial, … but on second thought maybe CEOs of oil companies would be better: Darren @exxonmobil, Wael @Shell, Murray @bp_plc, Mike @Chevron, …
Supersized heat waves used to be rare. No longer. A Reuters data-driven examination of global temperatures reveals the emergence of what we call heat storms. They now swarm the planet, upending life around the world. reut.rs/4zBUXtM
