It is with profound sadness and deep regret that we share the news of the passing of our beloved friend and colleague, Mari Steed. Mari passed away at home after a short but serious illness and in the warm and loving embrace of her cherished family. See: adoption.ie/mari/

It is with great sadness that we learned of the passing of Paddy O’Dwyer, founder of Dublin Youth Theatre.
Paddy was an educational psychologist whose approach exemplified compassion, embracing possibility, and volunteerism.

"Dublin is a magical place. It’s time for everyone to realise their role in keeping it so. Support local biz over chains, visit the city as much as you can &think of ways to make it better rather than just giving out about it. It is, after all, your city"

A reminder of the gulf between the testimony of survivors and the findings of the mother and baby homes Commission:
FINDING: “There are a small number of complaints of physical abuse. The women worked but they were generally doing the sort of work they would have done at home.”
WITNESS: “I arrived at Bessborough … and during the summer months my job was cutting the lawn with scissors. I did this every day in a line with a group of other women. We were not allowed to stop when we felt tired. In the winter months I had to polish and scrub the corridors… I worked seven days a week every week until I went into labour.”
And so many more...

All the restos surviving in this article cite tourism as keeping them afloat. There has to be an acknowledgement soon that we have hollowed out the city for tourist biz & made it no place to be/visit for the ppl that live here.
