Under pressure from Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the Trump administration may be within days of launching a nuclear strike on Iran. The target would be Pickax Mountain in central Iran, where Israeli intelligence claims the Iranian government has restarted its nuclear enrichment program. No conventional weapon in the American arsenal can penetrate 300 feet of solid granite to destroy the tunnels where enrichment is supposedly taking place. The only military option is a nuclear strike. Netanyahu has been pushing hard for one. “Bibi calls Trump about it every day,” says an informed observer. Netanyahu is cornered and desperate. After last week’s election results, he can’t form a government unless Trump intervenes directly in Israeli politics and brokers a deal with other parties that gives Netanyahu 61 seats in the Knesset. Otherwise, he is out as prime minister and on his way to ignominy, investigations and possibly jail. Netanyahu must stay close to Trump. He needs this war. To that end, he’s applied maximum pressure to his closest allies in the administration, including Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and CENTCOM commander Brad Cooper. Both oppose a negotiated settlement to the war they’ve so grievously mismanaged; both are pushing to restart major combat operations. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and CIA director John Ratcliffe are also following Netanyahu’s lead, as are leaders of the Democratic Party. In a recent meeting on the subject, former president Barack Obama said he opposes the current Iran peace deal being drafted in Doha. The rest of America’s longtime allies in the Middle East are terrified by the prospect of more war. On September 27th, Netanyahu flew secretly to Abu Dhabi to enlist the UAE in his lobbying effort for a final attack on Iran. The Emiratis refused. After eight months of conflict, Gulf economies are teetering. So are global energy and fertilizer markets. They won’t recover soon. Globally, there are a total of about 850 supertankers used to transport oil from producers to the rest of the world. In October alone, 11 of them were badly damaged in Hormuz. At this pace, a global depression is imminent. A nuclear strike would radically accelerate the destruction. Fallout from a ground explosion at Pickax Mountain would contaminate the Persian Gulf, poisoning the water supply for 100 million people. And those are just some of the immediate consequences for the region. The rest of the world is every bit as exposed. No country other than the United States has ever used a nuclear weapon in war. Some would like to. An American nuclear attack on Iran would set a new precedent. The Russians have already told at least two other governments that an American nuclear strike on Iran would free them to use nuclear weapons against Ukraine. Pakistan and India would be tempted to do the same against each other, as would North Korea against Seoul. After the first nuclear strike, World War Three is inevitable. That war would be short and final. We’ve been sleepwalking toward this moment for months. Since February, the administration has quietly rewritten America’s nuclear doctrine to make first use of so-called “battlefield nukes” easier and therefore more likely. No one in Washington in either party seems bothered by this. Now we’re on the brink of it. Close observers say Trump is likely to decide by next weekend whether or not to use nuclear weapons. That would be November 7, six days from now. To his credit, he’s hesitating. At the moment, Trump is listening to his vice president, JD Vance, and to his envoy and friend Steve Witkoff, both of whom argue a deal with Iran can be made. They’re right, though it won’t be simple. The Iranians are famously frustrating to negotiate with under any circumstances, and elements of that government have become more radical since Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and his family were killed in February. After decades of isolation, even relatively moderate Iranian leaders seem confused by how decisions are made in the West. (There is a widespread belief in Tehran, for example, that the United States government controls Israel.) But overall, people who have spoken to decision-makers in Iran say there is consensus there that more war is bad for everyone and a deal is worth making. One group that hasn’t been consulted so far is the global population — the hundreds of millions of people who will be killed along with their children if Trump is pushed by Netanyahu into launching a nuclear strike next week. Now would be the time for them to speak up.

🇷🇺 RUSSIA EYES NUCLEAR POWER PROJECTS IN FIVE AFRICAN COUNTRIES 🇦🇫 Russia’s state-owned nuclear energy giant, Rosatom, has announced plans to support the development of nuclear power plants in five African countries: Burkina Faso 🇧🇫, Niger 🇳🇪, Mali 🇲🇱, Uganda 🇺🇬 and Ghana 🇬🇭. The proposed projects form part of Russia’s expanding energy cooperation with Africa, with Rosatom expected to provide expertise in the design, construction and operation of nuclear facilities. The initiative aims to help participating countries increase electricity generation, expand access to reliable power and strengthen long-term energy security. If implemented, these projects could mark a significant development in Africa’s pursuit of energy diversification and industrial growth. Africa's energy future is becoming an increasingly important part of global strategic partnerships. What do you think about Russia's growing role in Africa's energy sector?

During the Russia-Africa summit in Moscow today, President Vladimir Putin paid tribute to Thomas Sankara in his speech, stating: “I would like to recall the words of the great son of the Burkinabe people, Chairman of the Revolutionary Council and first President of Burkina Faso, Thomas Sankara. He said: ‘Debt is neo-colonialism, in which colonizers transformed themselves into “technical assistants”. Under its current form, that is, imperialism-controlled, debt is a cleverly managed re-conquest of Africa, aiming at subjugating its growth and development through foreign rules.’ Putin added that these words were spoken in 1987—not yesterday, but not so long ago either. ‘Unfortunately, little has changed since then.’”

eir.news/2026/10/news/putin-… The third Russia-Africa Summit opened in Moscow today with delegations from 48 of Africa’s 54 states, 22 of them led by a head of state or government, according to Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov, up from 17 at St. Petersburg in 2023 tass.com/politics/2208085. President Vladimir Putin addressed the plenary of the Economic and Humanitarian Forum en.kremlin.ru/events/preside… together with the summit’s co-chairman, Burundi’s President Évariste Ndayishimiye, the current chairman of the African Union, who told the hall: “The potential for a Russian-African partnership is great. Our task is to translate it into concrete results.” “We are witnessing the emergence of a genuine multipolar world order as an objective and irreversible trend,” Putin said. “In the past, the future of whole continents was determined by a very small group of select states, but this epoch is past us.” Resistance comes from “countries accustomed to thinking in colonial terms and becoming fabulously—yes, fabulously—rich at the expense of others,” which “resort to any, even the ugliest and most cynical means, including tariff wars, illegitimate sanctions, economic dictate, blackmail and interference in the internal affairs of others.” Western countries, he said, “are making aggressive attempts to drive Africans back into financial bondage, imposing on them the financial resources they so desperately need on extortionate terms, which force them to pay back many times over.” He then quoted Thomas Sankara, “that great son of the Burkinabé people,” from his 1987 address to the Organization of African Unity: “Debt is neo-colonialism, in which colonisers have transformed themselves into ‘technical assistants’ ... debt is a skilfully managed reconquest of Africa, intended to subjugate its growth and development through foreign rules.” Putin: “That was said not so long ago—not yesterday, but in 1987. Unfortunately, little has changed since.” Africa’s infrastructure “was built in colonial times to serve the export of raw materials to the metropoles. Even today, by expert estimates, value added in the continent’s manufacturing industry is less than 2%. Of the total annual trade turnover of African states—$1.5 trillion—only 15% consists of transactions within the continent itself.” What Africa needs is “long-term investment in energy, industry, transport and logistics” to “finally throw off the shackles of the colonial legacy,” and reform of the IMF and World Bank to “redirect them towards the needs and requirements of developing economies.” Food was the concrete heart of the speech. More than 40 African countries import Russian grain and fertilizer, and Russia shipped 13 million tonnes of agricultural products to Africa in the first nine months of 2026. “At the same time, Africa has agricultural potential of its own and is capable of feeding itself. I believe this is one of the continent’s most important tasks.” Russia offers “seeds, fertilisers, agricultural machinery, and transport, storage and processing of food products” in support of the African Union’s agricultural program, “so as to achieve food sovereignty.” Russian-African trade reached $27 billion in 2025, up from $18 billion in 2022; Putin called for passing $50 billion, and for settlement systems to “shield settlements from politically biased interference by unfriendly countries,” since some African states “have no financial systems of their own and are instead tethered to European ones.” Relations, he said, “are hindered neither by the unprecedented restrictions imposed on our country nor by the intense pressure exerted by the West on our partners across the continent.” In the evening Putin met the heads of ten African regional organizations en.kremlin.ru/events/preside…, joined for the first time by the Eurasian Economic Union and the CIS, to discuss “aligning the integration processes underway on both the African and the Eurasian continents.” Ndayishimiye, for the AU: “Our compass is Agenda 2063.... We would like to achieve a level of cooperation that goes beyond commodity exports.” Africa’s most important capital, he said, is its youth, who “need engineering education, cooperation in science and education.” And: “We adhere to the principle of African solutions to African problems.... Thank you for respecting our priorities.” Putin also met Egypt’s Abdel Fattah el-Sisi; talks with Ethiopia’s Abiy Ahmed and Congo’s Denis Sassou Nguesso followed. The summit is to adopt a final declaration, a 2027-2029 action plan and a declaration on civilian artificial intelligence on Thursday.

Burundi’s President Évariste Ndayishimiye (@GeneralNeva) told the Russia-Africa Summit plenary that Africa intends to break out of the role of raw-material supplier and become a full participant in production, transformation and innovation. “Africa’s natural resources, its agricultural potential, its youth and its creativity are the engines of this transformation,” he said. He said the continent’s mineral wealth must become a guarantee of prosperity and well-being for its people, not simply deposits to be extracted, and that today’s riches must also benefit future generations. “Africa is seeking partners to strengthen its capacity to create its own wealth. We do not want to be condemned to exporting raw materials and then importing finished products at great cost. We want to participate in the entire value chain, from production to commercialization, so that the wealth created benefits our populations more.” He called for a partnership that moves beyond the traditional exchange of raw materials toward local processing, industrialization, technology transfer, skills development and job creation. He specifically called for diversified trade, settlement and payment systems, logistics and insurance institutions across the Russia-BRICS-Africa space. He described BRICS as one of the major poles of the new multipolar economic reality, noting South Africa, Egypt and Ethiopia as full members and Uganda and Nigeria as partners. “Our objective is to diversify our partnerships and to strengthen our collective capacity to decide freely on our development trajectory.” He said economic cooperation must uphold human dignity and reduce poverty, and that solidarity, training, health and food security must be at the heart of the effort. The goal, he said, is to move from extraction to prosperity.
