Why is there always money to bomb people, but never any money to feed, house or care for people?

Jonathan hasn’t read the new guidelines….or, should I say, had someone read them to him?
Yet another breach of the BBC’s impartiality rules by @GaryLineker. But, sadly, spineless Tim Davie will do nothing about it, having surrendered to Lineker previously. mol.im/a/12848279
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The BBC guidelines on impartiality refer to broadcast output. Mr Linekar added his signature to a letter, something done in his own personal time and nothing connected with any BBC content. bbc.co.uk/editorialguide…

I'm always in Cannock. I know my town better than anyone. Anyone. From local government to national representation. You know when Cannock people should have started paying attention? Not when people fleeing war stay in 2 hotels. We should have started paying attention when the sons and daughters of generations of Coal Miners (who in some of my mates cases were literally starving during the miners strike) continually voted for a party that has left our town in tatters. The town centre is dead, go up to Park Road and see the line of people waiting for methadone as the town battles a major heroin problem, then look at the "shops" which now is vape /barber/poundshop on a loop, and then tell me with a straight face that Cannock voters aren't responsible for the state of the town but 200 brown people in 2 hotels are. People walking around town in fucking dressing gowns and slippers, local standards disappearing due to the chronic lack of investment in infrastructure and people in our town based on voting for parties contrary to our town's interests has turned chunks of it feral. And we can't blame "them" because 97.4% of Cannock people are white. But hey, it's the 200 people in hotels fault. Only a bigot could blame people seeking asylum for the woes of a town which decided that decades of Tory government would make their town healthy, happy and productive but instead has left it a shell of the vibrant town it was many years ago. Blame yourself for once. Blame your vote. Blame yourself for giving liars, cheats, corrupt officials your thumbs up nationally. Blame you. Screenshots below. No asylum seekers were involved in any of it.

For reasons that are impossible to fathom, the UK Labour Party went out of its way to provide political cover for what will be one of the most lurid massacres in human history. It should at least be unequivocally calling for a ceasefire now.

"I’m personally a Holocaust survivor as an infant, I barely survived. My grandparents were killed in Aushwitz and most of my extended family were killed. I became a Zionist; this dream of the Jewish people resurrected in their historical homeland and the barbed wire of Aushwitz being replaced by the boundaries of a Jewish state with a powerful army…and then I found out that it wasn’t exactly like that, that in order to make this Jewish dream a reality we had to visit a nightmare on the local population. There’s no way you could have ever created a Jewish state without oppressing and expelling the local population. Jewish Israeli historians have shown without a doubt that the expulsion of Palestinians was persistent, pervasive, cruel, murderous and with deliberate intent - that’s what’s called the 'Nakba' in Arabic; the 'disaster' or the 'catastrophe'. There’s a law that you cannot deny the Holocaust, but in Israel you’re not allowed to mention the Nakba, even though it’s at the very basis of the foundation of Israel. I visited the Occupied Territories (West Bank) during the first intifada. I cried every day for two weeks at what I saw; the brutality of the occupation, the petty harassment, the murderousness of it, the cutting down of Palestinian olive groves, the denial of water rights, the humiliations...and this went on, and now it’s much worse than it was then. It’s the longest ethnic cleansing operation in the 20th and 21st century. I could land in Tel Aviv tomorrow and demand citizenship but my Palestinian friend in Vancouver, who was born in Jerusalem, can’t even visit! So then you have these miserable people packed into this, horrible…people call it an 'outdoor prison', which is what it is. You don’t have to support Hamas policies to stand up for Palestinian rights, that’s a complete falsity. You think the worse thing you can say about Hamas, multiply it by a thousand times, and it still will not meet the Israeli repression and killing and dispossession of Palestinians. And 'anybody who criticises Israel is an anti-Semite' is simply an egregious attempt to intimidate good non-Jews who are willing to stand up for what is true."

In the autumn of 2021, Stoke-on-Trent was awarded £56 million from the Levelling Up Fund. I left the city in that autumn after having studied & worked at both of its universities since 2005. This video, from a month ago, goes some way in showing that things, even in 2 years, have got a great deal worse. Further, projects outlined as beneficiaries of that funding in the main seem to be no further forward - see Etruscan Square of Hanley highlighted in this video, which remains boarded up with construction at a standstill. Having recently stated that "politicians have always taken towns for granted & focused on cities," Rishi Sunak surely cannot possibly think that the city of Stoke has been the subject of any amount of focus? Stoke is not an anomaly; there are many, many places up & down the country that should not look like this in 2023. These distressing sights & everything that accompanies them - drug taking, high unemployment, homelessness, poor access to poor services, poor connectivity - are not the outward face of a country that is healthy. Stoke is famous for the pottery industry & its bottle oven kilns, & the city highlights them as places of interest to visitors. However, the majority of them stand disconnected, & in a state of dereliction, becoming sad overt symbols for the state of the city as a whole. We've gone way beyond the "death of the high street," into a witnessing of the results of years & years of neglect. The effects of adandonment are visible across the 6 towns that comprise the city of Stoke. Level up? This once great centre of Britsh industry doesn't even look like it has a life remaining to attempt to play the game. youtu.be/wxf1na0FmaQ

I am so sad to hear MF Doom’s passing. He was a massive inspiration to so many of us, changed things.. for me the way he put words was often shocking in it’s genius, using stream of consciousness in a way i’d never heard before ... 🙏 music.apple.com/gb/album/gaz…
