iirc the polish governmentās campaign to persuade its diaspora to move back was pretty successful. Especially around covid, āwork remotely, be around your familyā

The average philosophy paper is titled "On the Very Idea of Quibbling over Qualia", begins with a whimsical anecdote about Wendy's aquamarine teapot, and then launches into 173 lines of formal logic.
Chapter proofs back from editors, who don't actually appear to speak English judging from the massive amounts of spelling errors in instructions and errr syntactical choices added in their "corrections".
Socialism is supporting the local petit bourgeoisie and the more you support the local property owners the more socialist it is
Replying to @Madeline_McCant
Actual socialism is fighting for locally owned grocery stores etc (which ime are usually on par with Lidl in terms of pricing but ymmv) and publically owned transport systems to allow ease of access. Socialism doesnāt have to give into corporations just bc itās convenient.

we have to get taika waititi back on new zealand cocaine. he is not suited for the wider cocaine ecosystem in the same way our enormous yet helpless birds cannot thrive around even the smallest of mammalian predators

Best anecdote in Carol Thatcher's book about her father is when Sir Denis boarded a train at Paddington in which the only empty compartment was reserved for Rosewood Psychiatric Hospital.
Denis travelled alone and in comfort as far as Reading when "all these chaps piled in", accompanied by a male nurse, who counted them before the train moved off.
'One, two, three, four ... who are you?"
"I'm the Prime Minister's husband."
"Six, seven, eight, nine..."

There was a chap at Oxford who came up in the 80s to research the 4 year tenure of a Yorkshire bishop. He spent 40 years on it, draining an inheritance left on condition it was spent on his education. Daily Mass (sometimes several times a day), lobster every day at Brown's next to the Oratory (hence the gout), magnificent dinner parties for miscreants, oddballs and grad students, and generous to charity. His fingers were so fat that his signet rings appeared stuck to them. Having spent every last penny, he was evicted from his apartment and became a monk some 3 years ago. No wife, no kids, and I don't think the DPhil ever got finished.
Top 5 most eccentric human beings Iāve met in my life. Bless him.
