Parents aren't choosing schools anymore. They're choosing programs. The majority of families now make their child's educational decisions based on which school districts or private schools offer the best athletics and activities — not just academics. That single shift changes everything for the people hiring coaches. Superintendents, school boards, and heads of private schools can no longer evaluate coaching hires the way they did a decade ago. You can't hire someone purely to teach a content area at a school where parents expect: → Scholarship pathways → Recruiting exposure → College-style communication and infrastructure → A program built for visibility, not just participation The old model — teacher first, coach second — doesn't match what families are actually shopping for. High school leadership has to get comfortable rethinking how athletic departments are structured. The programs that adapt will win enrollment. The ones that don't will keep losing families to the district down the road that already figured this out. The game changed.
