‼️A Bay Area couple lost nearly $60,000 not to a data breach, not to a phishing scam but to a chemically washed check pulled from a blue USPS mailbox. They wrote a $28,000 property tax check. Someone intercepted it, wiped the payee line clean, rewrote it to a stranger's name, and cashed it at an ATM in Minnesota. By the time they noticed, their bank had denied the fraud claim for reporting "too late." $60K out of pocket. For doing everything right. Check washing fraud isn't new but it's exploding.
