I learned that Christianity, Judaism, and Islam all worship the God of Abraham. As a Buddhist here in Japan, I’m absolutely stunned. If their faiths share the same roots, why do their followers keep fighting each other?!

🚨SHOCKING - FIR against Malabar: A man walked into a Malabar Gold showroom in Bilaspur with a simple request: exchange his old 22-carat HUID-hallmarked bracelet. The staff ran it through their XRF machine. Once. Twice. Three times. Every reading came back the same: 20 carat. They even told him the hallmark didn’t exist. He called the local jeweller who had sold him the bracelet. The jeweller walked in, confirmed the HUID, and asked them to test it again. Same machine. Same bracelet. Same room. This time an employee adjusted something on the machine. Suddenly the reading flipped to 916 - pure 22 carat. The jeweller recorded everything. The Sarafa Association arrived. Police registered an FIR against the showroom manager and the machine operator. The machine and DVR were seized. This wasn’t a small local shop. This was Malabar Gold “the chain that advertises trust, purity, and BIS standards across India”. One bracelet. Two readings. An 8% gap in gold value. And the only thing that changed was who was watching. If a hallmarked piece can magically lose two carats the moment a customer wants to exchange it, and magically regain them the moment someone pushes back, what exactly is the machine testing? Customers don’t walk into Malabar expecting a calibration error that only appears when they’re selling gold. They walk in expecting the purity printed on their receipt. The FIR is real. The readings are on record. The machine was seized. Malabar still hasn’t explained why the same piece of gold needed a “setting” before it became 22 carat again. Until they do, this isn’t a machine glitch. It’s a business model.

Honestly, I don’t want technology to advance any further. I think we need more gardens, more front porches and fewer screens.

Hello @TrafficGGM, @dcptrafficggm With the Vyapar Kendra & Galleria roads almost ready to become 2-way again, when will the switchover happen? Can you post cops & signage to ensure no chaos like Barapullah was? And can you stop the @letsblinkit guys from driving the wrong way?

Utterly horrific
Nine in ten American strawberries come from a few valleys in California where the soil is killed with a First World War gas before every planting, and the fields are visible from the road because they are wrapped in plastic to keep the gas in. Chloropicrin was made for the trenches. It was a lung and eye agent, a vomiting gas, fired in shells to force men out of their masks. Now it is injected into the ground at Watsonville and Oxnard every year, under tarps that hold the fumes down for a week, and it does to the soil what it did to a trench: everything in it dies, the fungi, the bacteria, the worms, the insects, until the dirt is as sterile as a hospital tray. Then the strawberries go in, on raised beds of plastic, fed by drip line with everything a living soil would have given them, and the plastic and the gas go in again next year, because a dead soil has no defence against the one disease that gets through. For forty years the gas was methyl bromide, which eats the ozone layer, and when the world banned it in 2005 California's strawberry growers got themselves an exemption and kept using it for another decade, the last major crop on earth to do so. Chloropicrin was the replacement, and the state's own pesticide regulator lists it among the commonest causes of farmworker poisoning in California. The men who apply it are mostly undocumented, the drift has emptied a school in Monterey County, and the strawberry has topped the list of the most pesticide-contaminated produce in America for most of the last decade. Every year the industry calls it a heart-healthy antioxidant superfood, and every year the field it came from is gassed. The cow in the pasture next door has never once needed the soil under her sterilised. The strawberry cannot be grown at that scale without it, and the war gas is the price of a punnet in January.

In Japan, there’s a beautiful concept called Omoiyari. It means acting with empathy before someone even asks for it. Such as helping someone struggling with luggage or lowering your voice so a stranger can rest. Imagine how different our public spaces would be with a little more Omoiyari.

One of the best shows i have watched
How good is Slow Horses? I know there are a lot of people throwing nice words at it but - after finishing series 6 this week - I wanted to throw something into the praise pot. There are so many amazing performances in there. Saskia Reeve’s is stand-out as Standish, Kristen Scott Thomas is immense and - I can only fit 6 pictures on this grid but there are so many to choose from. They all play characters who are brilliant at their jobs but terrible at life. Gary Oldman’s Jackson Lamb is on another planet. He is desperate to look like he couldn’t care less but occasionally there is a believable flash of loyalty that makes an otherwise repulsive human genuinely compelling. His acting is so good you can smell him through the telly. You care about all the failures because you want the Slough House rejects to find a bit of purpose and meaning. It is laugh-out-loud funny but the humour never gets in the way of the danger or the drama. A wince can be seconds away from a cackle. It also has just the right level of complication. There is a lot going on but it doesn’t keep stopping to explain to the audience what is happening and, even though there is international spy stuff going on, there is a grubby earthiness that makes it feel relatable. The insults are top-tier and, at the heart of it, it’s about people who have been written off realising that they still count. 9.9 out of 10. I’m taking off 0.1 for all the swearing 😂 Bring on season 7 🎯

Looks like @dtptraffic traffic policemen were lying to me. I'll have to now keep a copy of the regulations with me in the car, because you can't trust the police in Delhi. Delhi Police and Delhi Traffic police are both untrustworthy.
Official Gazette notification G.S.R. 634(E) dated 23 June 2017 (MoRTH). Reg 12(1)(f) text: indiankanoon.org/doc/1312831… Full regulations: indiankanoon.org/doc/1648936… Also listed on morth.nic.in Motor Vehicle Legislation page.

Hi @dtptraffic . Some of your traffic policemen told me right now that in the city of Delhi, left turn at a traffic light is not free by default. They said that if there isn't a divider for a left turn, or a left turn free sign, we cannot turn left. They said it amounts to jumping a traffic light, which as far as I know it isn't. This goes contrary to what your traffic policemen told me 5 years ago, where I missed a "left turn not free" sign and turned left. They said that only on traffic lights where such a sign is there is left turn not free. So which is it - is left turn free unless there's a sign preventing it? Or is it blocked unless there's a left turn free sign? I've taken left turns free by default at traffic lights throughout the time that I've driven in Delhi. Most of us have. Are your cops trying to meet a target by challaning people for jumping a traffic signal when they haven't done that? They couldn't tell me which law and which rule. As a citizen I expect your policemen to know the law they're enforcing, and for there to be consistency. By saying that you can challenge this in court is transferring the burden to the citizen.
