Published in English as “Man’s Search for Meaning,” I’d recommend they read Victor Frankl’s prison camp memoir: “…Nevertheless, Say Yes to Life: A Psychologist Experiences the Concentration Camp.” Frankl’s parents, brother, and pregnant wife all died in the Holocaust.
If you could only recommend one book to a good friend, what would it be? (Fiction or non-fiction)

.@BarackObama: Trump should be on HGTV. He's building a ballroom, paved over the Rose Garden, put a helicopter pad on the South Lawn, and what's up with the gold? He’s got the White House looking like Saddam Hussein opened up a Cheesecake Factory!

Oh, Boris, dahling, I just talk to moose and squirrel.
As the White House itself announced, Trump wife, Melania Trump, helped secure a ceasefire deal in Russian-occupied Oleshky, Ukraine. Dear @grok, what exactly did she do, and how did she make it happen? Did she speak to Putin and Zelenskyy?

So let me get this straight…. He’s throwing a tantrum over questions about his OWN business record, including allegations concerning Axovant and his mother’s role in its clinical-data analysis, while defending an ad featuring Dr. Acton’s estranged mother as a “character witness”?! Am I hearing that correctly?! 🤨 He chose to drag a survivor’s childhood trauma into this campaign. But scrutiny of his OWN business decisions and his mother’s professional involvement is somehow unfair? Perhaps the media he keeps accusing of being biased SHOULD keep asking those questions. And while we’re discussing accountability, ask about his COVID proposals, too: antibody testing and an immunity registry to determine WHO could return to normal life while others remained under restrictions. Remember, BOTH candidates advised the DeWine administration, in different capacities. Acton served as health director. Ramaswamy advised Lt. Governor Jon Husted. If he wants to campaign on pandemic restrictions, his OWN proposals belong in that conversation. You don’t get to demand scrutiny of your opponent while throwing a tantrum when the scrutiny reaches YOU. 🤷🏻‍♀️
Vivek Ramaswamy triples down on his ad featuring Amy Acton's estranged and abusive mother: "The issue here is that our opposition, and I think with the media aide, they are lying about an ad that is about lying."

16 years after Citizens United and related decisions destroyed bipartisan campaign finance reform (McCain-Feingold), one man is spending nearly half a billion dollars to influence American elections.
Elon Musk's total political spending in the 2025-2026 cycle: $469 million, by my count.

The now infamous @VivekGRamaswamy ad is repugnant for many reasons and should be retracted with an apology and sincere contrition. One really important reason the ad is so bad for us as a society is that it could make the problem of underreporting sexual assault even worse. For example: At @OhioState, campus climate surveys (2015–2019) found roughly 1 in 5 female undergraduates (about 20%) reported experiencing nonconsensual sexual contact by force, threats, or incapacitation since enrolling. With roughly 46,000–47,000 undergraduates on the Columbus campus (about half of them women), that prevalence points to thousands of female students who have had such experiences during their time at the university. However, federally mandated crime reports for the Columbus campus during the same time period show only dozens of rape and fondling cases reported to authorities each year—on the order of 0.1% of the undergraduate population of about 46,000–47,000, and a far smaller share of the female undergraduates. Roughly 20% of female undergrads say they have had these experiences at some point since enrolling, but only a tiny fraction of cases are ever reported to authorities in any given year. The gap is large and consistent with national data: most incidents never reach police. Nearly 50 years ago, @amyactonoh, then 12, reported sexual abuse by her stepfather. He was indicted, and he fled justice with Acton’s mother. Court records confirm it. Today, @VivekGRamaswamy’s campaign is spending millions platforming her estranged mother to call her a liar about her past. That kind of public doubt is exactly the message that keeps most women and girls from ever reporting. They already fear they won’t be believed.

I don't really understand this morally and ethically barren hellscape era of American politics we are in, but I do know normal Ohioans pretty well. I don’t think this will play well at all. I think this might become one of the most infamous backfires in political ad history.
Last week, I wrote about how the notorious conman Vivek Ramaswamy had co-opted Dr. Amy Acton's estranged mother for his "October surprise." Here's the ad in full. Nasty stuff from Ms. Arthur.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Acton's mother lost custody of her children after years of documented issues, including time spent living in a tent and a spouse who sexually abused her daughter Amy (Acton). Amy Acton's brother has also confirmed this story. x.com/amyactonoh/sta… wkbn.com/news/local-new… time.com/collections/co… vindyarchives.com/news/2019/aug/… 614now.com/2020/culture/c… actonforgovernor.com/meet-amy/

Potentially the most pathetic statement ever released by a U.S. President. Forever a moral stain on this nation. Let’s vote anyone that has ever enabled him and his insanity the fuck out of office.
Trump: My decision on Russia is a very simple one. I don't want to do anything that will drive, foolishly, Russia away from the bargaining table. Russia is doing very little, if anything, to help the Islamic Republic of Iran, compared to what they could be doing. Zelenskyy is using Diesel Refineries in Russia as a target, knowing that these attacks are seriously hurting the world diesel markets, including those in the United States. Farmers, ranchers, and businesses of all kinds are suffering greatly from this, but Russia is, nevertheless, sending, at a low price, millions of barrels of diesel to the World. Zelenskyy doesn't care, and frankly, with all of the money that Europe is famously giving him, and that Crooked Joe Biden gave him in the past, he doesn't want to end this war, and probably never did. He could have made a better deal two years ago than he can now. His country is in shambles, a large portion of his land is lost, his oceans and seas are gone, and his male population is low, wounded, and/or dead. I WANT THIS WAR END!
