Imagine a world with no more avatars and no more anonymous names. Imagine needing to use your national ID and facial verification before you can do anything on the internet even for something as basic as searching "what is photosynthesis?" or watching a video on YouTube.
It sounds like I'm exaggerating, but this isn't far-fetched. Control systems like this start small, often disguised as simple safety regulations, then everything happens all at once. If we don't take action, it could easily happen because the foundation for this reality is already in the works.

We won telegram's $200,000 Digital Freedom competition
But it's looking shady... and they're deleting people's messages ๐
here's the gist.
Hundreds of contestants participated in Telegram's digital freedom contest. The evaluation criteria for the contest said low quality submissions would be discarded. [Virality was never mentioned there.]
For weeks people asked whether virality was a judging criterion. They answered other questions. They never answered that one.
The volunteer told us to focus on quality, and they didnโt correct them.
So people did that. Spent real money on production, on shoots, on equipment, then a month later, they drop the results and now they say "The key criteria in this contest was virality โ we did not request anything else"
And get thisโฆ The #1 winner was a short clip with caption. ๐ตโ๐ซ [video in comments]
Then all hell broke loose. Lots of creators felt deceived and used and started calling them out for it... Then they eventually start deleting messages and muting people๐๐... The irony โจDigital Freedomโจ
My read: if they had said virality upfront, most people wouldn't have bothered participating. Instead, the absolute most important factor was never emphasized, everything else was, everyone who asked didnโt get a reply, and they got a month of PR out of hundreds of creators.
I don't know how involved @durov is in this. But from where I'm standing, it's shameful. A contest fighting government oppression, and this is how contestants get treated. HOPEFULLY, behind your back.

So yes, 359 entries made the winners list. But we participated malinformed about the most important criteria. Telegram, do better.

Calling Governors out is not the job of just people from Lagos State. It's everyone's job. If it affects one it affects all. That's why the argument started in the first place.
The only thing that makes Lagos better is the Economic and Commercial factor, that's why people go there in the first place - to hustle. But you forget that Akwa-Ibom is still a child where Lagos is. Lagos has been the centre of commerce even before Nigeria was Nigeria.
Akwa-Ibom is doing well compared to Lagos for its age.
You should read and travel more.

I don't know what is the cause of this here. I won't defend what I don't know.
But you tagging me to this because of the Lagos argument is dumb๐. The argument was about "slum" not flood and Slum is not equals flood.
There's flood in places like lekki doesn't make lekki a Slum, seeing a video of a flooded part of Uyo, doesn't make Uyo a Slum..
Back to the flood issue, it'll help Lagos a great deal to work on drainage and waste policy. It might not totally get rid of flood but it'll help.
