In the ongoing saga of Google's battle against the automated indexing of SERP data, we have rolled out our first version of detection specifically aimed at detecting and flagging poisoned SERPs.
As of our latest run (today), we're seeing a rate of 6.7% of the SERPs being poisoned, which is lower than the 11% rate we saw about a week ago.
The accuracy of our detection is greater now as well, as we detail in this article.
This is not the final release we will be making on this topic, as we have more work to do in order to add in more reporting inside our Observability feature, as well as additional filters and labels in the main UI.
We're in a whole new world of dealing with Google data. The only way through all of this is with quick iterations, observability on the data being collected, and transparency on the process as a whole.
More to come.
In the meantime, read the blog post for more details:

Bad Bunny made an album about a summer without you. I made a talk about a summer without rankings. His did better, but mine explains why ChatGPT describes your nursing program using a three-year-old review someone left on their phone. FOUND Tokyo, Feb 18-19.

Looks like the news is finally breaking about problems in SERP / rank tracking across the industry.
We were talking about it 3 weeks ago.
Here is a recap of our coverage:

Spurious data in Google SERPs:

And also our response to Google's goto redirects way back in August:

And, not to leave anything out, the massive uptick in AIOs for branded queries:

In a follow-on to our previous post about Observability, we confirm that we are also seeing the spurious data on Google SERPs that has been reported over the last few days.
We're currently seeing it for ~11% of the SERPs we're tracking, although that number can vary depending on the site and industry.

A new blog post talking about the concept of Observability, along with a new feature announcement, appropriately called DemandSphere Observability.
Observability is usually talked about in an IT context, not so much in marketing. Of course, in the world of search, the two overlap more frequently than not.
Observability refers to the second-order data about data, typically captured in flexible, traceable formats that provide for ad hoc, retroactive analysis in order to permit different types of forensic insight into the internal state of your systems.
The SEO / AI search world, despite the mountains of data we all deal with daily, has surprisingly never had a good Observability practice in the industry as a whole.
Given the onslaught of changes from Google, we think it's a good time to change that.
As a result, we are announcing our Observability feature and the corresponding blog post (below) talks about all of this in greater detail.

Google's Summer of Love
September has been a month of the most aggressive Google blocking that we've seen and people have been quiet about it, for good reason.
I cover what Google has been up to this Summer, why it's happening, and how we should be looking at data operations going forward.
