Found a couple of new inscriptions in Aajaigarh. One is a sati record, the other seems to be issued by a Kayastha who was gatekeeper of this fort. Neither of the records is in a good state.

Around the same time, Kayasthas also suffixed their names with Simha. A family of Srivastava Kayasthas in Ajaigarh for instance. Mathurs in Rajasthan also used variants of Simha such as Siha or Singh in the early mediaeval period. It changed to the modern surname Sinha in the British period.
Buddhists used Simha, but Hindus were using it as well long before it became widespread.
The key distinction is between occasional usage and an established naming tradition. Singh appears sporadically in earlier Hindu names, but Kachhwaha inscriptions from around the 11th century CE show members of the dynasty using it as part of their names.
So, while others may have used Singh once in a while, the Kachhwahas were among the earliest to establish its consistent and hereditary use as a naming tradition. From there, its use gradually became widespread among Rajputs, especially by around the 14th century CE.
Do you know it’s well established that rodents are so empathetic that they would help a fellow rodent trapped than go eat food offered to them ?

I couldn’t spot one even after spending close to 10k in Satpura on a safari
Encountered a tiger while riding through the Akola buffer zone of the Panna tiger reserve. Shortly before this encounter, I saw a large herd of deer next to the road. I had a feeling, I might see more wildlife ahead.
Lo and behold, this big cat was hiding in the bushes at the edge of the road. He snarled at me as he looked for a clear path to cross. His intense gaze did not scare me. If anything, he was mesmerizing to look at. Instead of speeding up, I slowed my bike and turned my head around to take in his majestic beauty before he vanished from sight. 1/3

Why are polluting Delhi vehicles being allowed to ply Gurgaon and Noida roads ?
More than 10 lakh vehicles in neighbouring NCR areas of Gurgaon, Faridabad, Noida, Greater Noida and Ghaziabad could be affected by Delhi's decision to prohibit the entry of vehicles below BS6 emission standards from Nov 1, 2026 to Jan 31, 2027, according to transport department estimates.

The Chausath Yogini temple at Bhedaghat, Jabalpur. It actually has 81 yoginis instead of 64 as the name indicates. It was constructed during the reign of Kalachuri Yuvarajadeva I by his prime minister Gollaka, a Gauda Kayastha, in the 10th century CE. Gollaka also built several collosal Vishnu Avatar idols at Bandhavagarh.

Found this name on the platform of the Panch Matha temple in Jabalpur. Reads Jim V Lenehan 1864. I tried searching this name on the internet, couldn't find anything. Seems like a British officer or a soldier.

I get the sentiment behind making it but the video is factually misplaced at many levels.
Khusrow’s poetry is famed for enmeshing themes of bhakti with his devotion for his guru Nizamuddin Auliya. So in most of his works it is Khusrow himself who assumes the metaphor of a ‘gopi’ in devotion of his guru referred to by Nizam.
The ‘chhap’ in the ‘chhap tilak’ refers to the forehead mark on a muslim head which is symbolic of frequent prayers. It is not coming from a place of malice and in its heyday was limited to the sama gatherings of khanqahs, although the kind of literature it is made out to be also exists.
Such kind of poor research and hastened insinuating conclusions have been a bane for our cultural output for quite a long time. It needs to be unfortunately called out so that it gets addressed.
Shankar Mahadevan sings 'Chhap Tilak' on a Lord Ganesha stage, while Jaya Kishori sings it at her spiritual gatherings.
But has anyone ever questioned the meaning of Amir Khusrau’s words?
