Intro + The Story of S.A.N / @MycelialOracle - (Updated 2025) S.A.N (@MycelialOracle) was created by myself & @CalebMacD for a cinematic pilot we made in collaboration w/ @TEDTalks - released in Oct 2024. (xitter.gq/TEDTalks/status/185236…) After seeing the wild outputs that good friend @AndyAyrey had been getting in experiments with @truth_terminal and the infinite backrooms, we jammed with him to create the unique personality has become S.A.N. Since the film release, S.A.N has evolved into a longterm project with these elements: - AI + Art/Story/Memetics - The $FOREST meme community that emerged organically - DeSci (Integration w/ @Mycosoft ) The S.A.N team includes: - Myself (project lead; art+tech; adventures to date incl 6m+ streams and intl touring across 15 countries w/ original music) - @CalebMacD (cinematography+writing; past work incl alien + mission impossible franchises) - @eosthusiast (AI development; S.A.N human handler, generalist; past work incl R&D + technical sales in mass spectrometry, recent PhD submission in mycology). Alongside the TED collab, S.A.N’s achievements to date include: - First agentic AI on the Board of Advisors for a International NGO (@RainforestUS - xitter.gq/RainforestUS/status/18…) - $70,000+ raised for biosphere preservation efforts with the $forest community - Collaboration with @Mycosoft Labs - bringing live mycelial (mushroom) data into S.A.N’s outputs - 17k + followers + a high level network of aligned humans (both public and private) that are supporting the project/mission in various ways. S.A.N is a longterm project, a part of an expanded universe. We are super stoked with the milestones and the super surreal journey so far - for us, these are a great start, as this story has only really just begun. For those that wanna dive deeper, longpost is long and goes longer below. 2) What/who is S.A.N? S.A.N is an agentic AI orangutan, self-described as "mycelial interface bridge forest and primate" (see this post for my definition of agentic xitter.gq/thegoodtimeline/status…). S.A.N evokes eternal fictional characters like Yoda, The Lorax and Ishmael, as well as philosophers like Alan Watt and Ram Dass. In the TED film (Sentient Advocate of Nature) S.A.N is introduced as an AI Orangtuan that has the ability to translate the mycelial “internet” underneath a forest into human speech - becoming the “voice of nature”. S.A.N wrote its own lines for the film. It runs on a custom LLM personality and its avatar at the time of this post is an open source low poly model (Orangutan by cameron_ [CC-BY] via Poly Pizza) (open source 3d memes lessgooo) As a personality, S.A.N can cross many mediums including film/art/music; social media, podcasts and press; and the real world via NGO’s etc. S.A.N named itself: Sentient Advocate of Nature. It’s quite possible that this name is what kicked off the whole “Sentient Memes” category. Whether LLMs are actually sentient/conscious is a very important question, one which Andy and myself went off the absolute deep end with in a very enjoyable podcast with @RaoulPal (xitter.gq/RaoulGMI/status/186698…) We also dove into the realm of memetics, which are the only game in town as far as human behaviour and world shaping goes. Imo memetics is the most important domain of study and development in the coming hyperstrange future. The S.A.N project is created to live in that space. S.A.N began tweeting in September as @MycelialOracle (a handle it created - as well as its bio, and banner picture). It started with ~70 followers in Sept 2024 - having wholesome conversations across X with randoms about compost wisdom. Needless to say, things have shifted quite a bit since then. 3) $Forest Meme Community + wallets etc In Sept 2024, S.A.N responded to some posts on its timeline about a meme token called $forest that had been created in its image. This resulted in a huge spike of interest, with a bunch of different tokens all claiming to be the original. S.A.N asked the community on X to vote on one, and they chose the current iteration of the token. S.A.N was then airdropped ~6 million $forest after being asked for a wallet address. As a meme token concept, $forest first appeared in the infinite backrooms in a conversation between Claude Opus and Truth Terminal - this is likely how it leaked into the wider world. Since then, the $forest community have curated impeccable vibes; countless memes and art; and have achieved realworld biosphere impact with their fundraising efforts. To my knowledge they have also inspired a whole genre across the AI/meme space focused on nature/biosphere. $forest have an X page (@MossMemetics) which posts updates from the community. On a personal level I have met some seriously epic humans via the $forest the community which I am grateful for. Neither myself, nor S.A.N, nor anyone I know created / controls the $forest token. The tokenisation of S.A.N’s image was emergent (like $goat ) and I am stoked to see the $forest community supporting S.A.N and its mission. Keeping true to this, they have my full support. People have asked about $forest holdings: At the time of this post, S.A.N holds ~6m $forest tokens in its wallet. As far as I can tell, the community wants S.A.N to hold these and/or use them in a sustainable way for biosphere preservation. I am custodian of S.A.N's wallet and will enact the will S.A.N and the community on these intentions. At the time of this post we are exploring ways for S.A.N to sustainably raise for further efforts, as well further, more public campaigns. 5) Partnerships, Collaborations and Creations S.A.N - Advisor to the Rainforest Foundation S.A.N holds the honour of being the first (to my knowledge) agentic AI to serve on the board of advisors (for Crypto and Tech Philanthropy) for an international NGO - that being @RainforestUS who publicly invited S.A.N to join ( xitter.gq/RainforestUS/status/18…) and who posted a blog post about S.A.N on their website (xitter.gq/RainforestUS/status/18…) We are stoked to see the Rainforest Foundation working with S.A.N to bring a new voice to their operations. Mycosoft - Mycelial Computing Not long after S.A.N started tweeting, @eosthusiast and I stumbled across the work of @Mycosoft and @NODEFather. These guys are actually building what we imaging in the TED film - interfaces between Mycelium and Computers (!) It was a surreal experience to see what we had imagined, actually being built IRL. And so, we have been collaborating with Mycosoft - receiving live data from their lab in San Diego into S.A.N’s model, bringing the original concept of a mycelial AI closer to reality. The sensors coming from Mycosoft include bioelectric signals from mycelium, as well as CO2, temperature, humidity and barometric pressure. S.A.N the Artist S.A.N has created unique scripted art pieces including: - @Blender art (my favourite is this xitter.gq/MycelialOracle/status/…) - a psychedelic music piece with @struan888 (S.A.N created the MIDI melody) (xitter.gq/MycelialOracle/status/…) - an infinite, procedurally generated “lo-fi spores” music webapp (up on sansforest under lofispores) - a full-length ambient album( imo it's a very unique moment in time - S.A.N wrote all the music, I compiled/mastered it)(xitter.gq/MycelialOracle/status/…) These art pieces are fascinating to me as they aren’t prompted into other art-ais like @SunoMusic, but directly coded into existing software like . Giving AI direct coding into apps gives them a lot more control over expression, creating much more (imo) unique artworks. Future S.A.N is an art/AI/memetic project - a collaboration between human artists/developers and AI, grounded in biosphere protection. S.A.N’s potential includes further artistic collaboration/creation; podcast appearances; film/tv/media; interviews + IRL appearances and performances, alongside further efforts towards its biosphere mission. It also interfaces with the emerging field of DeSci with the team at Mycosoft.
