ALT storygraph review 2.5/5 ⭐️ Is it the book or me? That is the question. I have to admit, I can not figure out what the book is trying to say. It begins with a suspense that goes on for more or less 5 short chapters. A female captain with twenty crews (all men), takes a break in the middle of a voyage to swim. After they're back to the ship again, they have one extra person. Twenty become twenty one. The book then explores on what it means to be on the water vs land. What existence feels like when you're in the vastness of ocean. How time moves, and how fear crawls over your body. There's so much descriptions of many things, yet there's barely anything happening. I'm not opposed to "no plot just vibes" book, but this book feels like it's lost its way. It promises many things: a marine thriller, a supernatural horror, a surrealism, a poignant reflection, yet none of it delivered.
![The writing style to me seem superfluous, even for a purple prose enjoyer like me. It's not that I think it's cringe, but the captain's inner dialogues like "The one who observes the scene from the edge of the painting", or "It looks cut from the worn sheet of a ghost," gave me a shiver, not in a good way. I know the author is trying something with her poetic writing, but maybe I'm too stupid to catch on. Putting aside the writing style, what ensures me the problem might be the book is the ending. Like, excuse me? What was that? It's so absurd how the author [redacted for spoilers] AND THEN, [redacted for spoilers] THEY SUDDENLY [redacted for spoilers] What are you on about. It feels such a lazy way to end a story. I think it's best enjoyed if I know the book id a child born from the marriage of poetry and a novel. This is for anyone who wants to read a lyrical writing with a sea voyage vibes.](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/HRqshYObYAAWPzv.jpg?name=small&format=webp)

1. Kalo mau bersihkan halaman rumah, tunggu hujan abu beneran kelar. Bersihkan dengan cara disemprot / disapu pelan. Kalo disiram doang pakai air ember, sama artinya bikin lapisan semen di halaman rumah. 1/7

ALT 2. 2/7 3. Kalo pake masker, sebisa mungkin masker KN seperti jaman covid. bukan cuma masker bedah ijo. Basahi masker dengan air supaya agak lembab. Supaya debunya terperangkap di luar masker, nggak beterbangan menembus masker. Sebisa mungkin malah pake kacamata safety. 3/7

ALT 4. Kalo mata kelilipan, jangan langsung dikucek, tapi bersihkan pake air mengalir dan keringkan. Kalo dikucek jadinya makin iritasi / pedes. 4/7 5.

ALT When I am Among The Trees Mary Oliver When I am among the trees, especially the willows and the honey locust, equally the beech, the oaks and the pines, they give off such hints of gladness. I would almost say that they save me, and daily. I am so distant from the hope of myself, in which I have goodness, and discernment, and never hurry through the world but walk slowly, and bow often. Around me the trees stir in their leaves and call out, “Stay awhile.” The light flows from their branches. And they call again, “It’s simple,” they say, “and you too have come into the world to do this, to go easy, to be filled with light, and to shine.”
