I bought this on eBay for a HP125 restore.

The connector looks like this, verified by a cheeky Arduino sketch.

000 1111 is hardcoded to always return active low to identify whether or not the keyboard is connected. Nice.

I've never been able to improve on the management theorist Frederick Herzberg's timeless 10-word maxim: "Idleness, indifference, and irresponsibility are healthy responses to absurd work." (Teachers/parents: Feel free to substitute "worksheets" for "absurd work.")

Hooray! I now own a PET to fix up. Boo! It wasn’t packed properly, and a broken tube is going to make restoration hard.

Also, I realize I'm already fed up with power cycling the thing and have no idea if power is on or off. Inspired by @craig1black I switch out the 555 timer used to reset the machine with a little bodge so I can reset as a push button, and also see if the board has power.

Still no luck, let's try plugging in a Romulator configured for a PET 8032 bitfixer.com/product/romulat…

Great list for young teams to consider!
Common software dev mistakes are at the extremes: 1. Under-engineering 2. Over-engineering Under-engineering: No CI No reviews Weak types Hard coding Tight coupling Manual deploys Frequent copy/paste Insufficient flexibility No automated checks No validation/error checks 1/2👇

One final part to paint, the base wasn't in great shape either. Cleaning up the rust, priming and painting worked out pretty well. Note painters tape over the hinges and the rivets for the feet.

Next it's time for reassembly! How's that for progress, @adrianpike?
