To the President, to my friends, and to fellow citizens, In the midst of floods, leptospirosis, earthquakes, and a cascade of crises, a deeper illness afflicts our nation—the absence of accountability, transparency, and genuine compassion. This is not an accusation. It is a reflection. It seems that our people are being punished not for their own shortcomings, but for the failure of leadership. Institutions are weakening not because we lack talent, but because we lack direction and moral courage. When leaders continue to evade responsibility, when corruption issues are left unresolved without urgency, we are playing a dangerous game of catch-up in the middle of a storm. And with every delay, lives are lost, trust is broken, and the future grows dim. The truth is: Not everyone is guided by truth, fairness, or reason. Many are driven by status preservation, emotional validation, and silent survival instincts. And when we forget this, we mistake performance for character—and we suffer for assuming decency is the default. But it is not too late. Leadership is not just a duty—it is an opportunity. An opportunity to show that the law does not favor the wealthy or the powerful. An opportunity to make people feel that they matter—not just during elections. I speak not as a critic, but as a physician, a father, and a citizen. I hope for swift action, clear direction, and sincere compassion. For those who have lost, for those who live in fear, and for those who continue to hope. The Philippines is not weak. The Filipino is not defeated.
