We trained the #1 decision models in the world, mammoth-1 and elephant-1! This is our first Base Labs model release and we're excited to open-source all weights and training details. We really focused on scaling high-quality data in these training runs – not only synthetically generating new decision data but stacking how we validated our data. This follows something called our 'swiss cheese' approach to looping over and improving training data. There are also a bunch more low hanging fruit when it comes to training these models, and we expect that we'll improve quickly over the coming weeks.
Today we release mammoth-1 and elephant-1! We post-trained mammoth-1, the #1 ranked best decision model in the world, and elephant-1, which is the best model under 15B (and beats Jev). We're open-sourcing all model weights and provide a technical report detailing all our training and data methods.

Important new tax case confirming that marshmallows of unusual size are 0% VAT; standard size marshmallows continue to be 20% VAT As ever, any sufficiently detailed VAT rule is indistinguishable from satire.

Is there a good example of a bank successfully running an immigration program? Can you imagine that risk committee?? The reputational risk alone "Barclays denied my immigration" headlines I can't see how the exceptional talent Visa survives...

I wrote a thing on demystifying the backend engineering interview process! ✨ monzo.com/blog/2022/03/23/de… Most companies keep their interview process secret. The privileged folks have backchannels to gain a leg up. That's unfair to those who are new and may not have the contacts 🙊

Thanks @NickKristof for shedding a light on this important topic. This is not about being a prude, it's about justice. No one should promote a company that monetizes sexual assaults on children or unconscious women. nytimes.com/2020/12/04/opini…

We're still looking for people to take over web engineering & design from me @daybridgeapp. You'll get a generous equity package (own a chunk of Daybridge!) and come build an exciting product with lots of autonomy and no bureaucracy. Send me a DM or email [email protected].
Sneak peak of the new WIP home page shipping in a few weeks. The "card wall" is dynamically randomly generated and uses real card components so you can interact with them. Still some work to do on it to make some cards look nicer and more tailored.

A mental model for stress, written with exceptional clarity — sooooo relatable, thank you @natashavernier for writing this.
As the world waits for the results of the #election and the UK enters another #lockdownUK, managing mental health is more important than ever. This is how I think about stress. If you need it, I hope it helps. medium.com/@natashavernier/m…
