Unpopular opinion:
Every artist doesn’t need a record deal.
Some artists need better distribution, better marketing, a publishing administrator and somebody who understands how to monetize their catalog.
Stop giving away ownership before understanding your options.
An artist can have 10 million streams and still be broke.
Streams don’t tell the whole story.
Who owns the masters?
Who collects publishing?
What’s the royalty split?
Who’s controlling distribution?
Understand the business before celebrating the numbers.
Everybody wants to be an independent artist until they realize being independent means running a business.
Music is the product. Marketing is the engine. Ownership is the asset.
Learn all three.
