Just one line - Times Health Commission - Highlighting just in case it’s missed GPs aren’t paid on activity but receive £163 /person/year on average, this is 20% less than 2016 if it increased with inflation GP activity has increased 20%, hospitals are doing no more 🤷🏻‍♂️

If Sunak wants to save the NHS, start with GPs GPs aren’t just ‘gatekeepers’. They provide most of the care that people need and ensure that hospital services are only used when they add value. thetimes.co.uk/article/if-ri…

Half the population consult General Practice every month The average number per person is 7 per year Some people consult a lot All this for £163 It’s not enough & GPs are leaving Unless you all want to pay £100 for every private GP consultation #GPCrisis blame MPs not GPs

NEW: we need to talk about NHS staff retention. At a time when Britain’s healthcare system is acutely short of workers, *1 in 7* UK-trained doctors are practising overseas. No other developed country is like this, which immediately tells you there’s a problem. Let’s dig deeper:

Just a GP! Not a specialist - ONLY a generalist But ONLY a GP Can consult the elderly, the child, the mother Deal with moans, bones and groans Switch between a death & the gift of life Hold the tension of end & grief Know old and young ONLY a GP #TeamGP

What a pleasure! Lunch with my distinguished predecessor as Clackmannanshire MP - George Reid. Parliamentarian at both Westminster and Holyrood, journalist and diplomat. I last saw George when I visited him at Westminster as a 15 year old schoolboy in school uniform!

It was inevitable. The song is a mess, like the situation the BBC has found itself in. But this one's dedicated to all the dudes showing solidarity with @GaryLineker on @BBCMOTD. ⚽️🎶 #IStandWithGary #GaryLineker #BBCQuestionTime #WatfordFCManagementApproachNeeded 🐝

Has to be said, James nails it yet again, so much so, it has upset someone
James O’Brien performed an amazing take down of Laura Kuenssberg today, the clip went wild then LBC deleted it 😏 Did #bbclaurak & the beeb get legal involved🤨 The video fell into the void until @AnarchyUK3 shared a copy with me 👍 I’ve sped it up to fit the time frame

GPs perform more than a ‘gatekeeper’ role for the NHS They see, consult, treat, manage, care for 1m people a day NHS/MPs/Media underestimate the work the NHS will fail due to lack of investment in Primary Care For every 1 person attending A&E - 15 consult a GP #GPCrisis
'It doesn’t take a health economist to calculate that if even a small proportion of the unfiltered patients in primary care took themselves directly to the door of secondary care, the financial woes of the NHS would rapidly escalate,' says @docmartin68 bit.ly/3l05IFk

While @Jeremy_Hunt prepares to give his speech criticising 'Declinism' there's this from the @nytimes on the depths of the UK's decline. No amount of Hunty rhetoric will change the reality. But a new government might.

The contrast between England and Scotland's ambulance response times is stark (comparing whole-nation metrics: Category 2's vs Ambers on 90th percentile responses). Scotland had a problem in December 2022, England disintegrated.
