The infamously shelved Looney Tunes movie is good! Now, people just have to see it. My review:

Looking for your next read? DoomRocket spotlights two Image Comics titles you won't want to miss: TERMINAL #1, the explosive new superhero epic from ROBERT KIRKMAN & JOE CASEY, and REGICIDE #1, the dark fantasy series being described as "Dracula meets Berserk." Read more:

I like BATMAN: CAPED CRUSADER -- it embraces the characters' pulp roots, isn't afraid to kill off its characters, and boasts a version of Rose & Thorn (!) that's one for the books -- but I don't love it. Figuring out why is the reason I wrote this:

MADDIE'S SECRET is John Waters mischief, David Wain shagginess, queer-pop giddiness, and a tender heart wrapped in shimmering cellophane -- an uncannily strange yet deeply heartfelt debut that goes down a treat. My review:

After one hell of a month, I dove into an appropriately weirdo private festival of oddballs, including CHAPTER 51 (pretty, pretty fun and pretty dumb), NIGHT AFTER NIGHT (moody and mopey), and LOCKBOX (clumsy yet watchable). Grateful to finally be back in the game:

MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE: Mattel's first (though certainly not last) Marvel movie is a colorful toy-smasher that's unyieldingly frivolous and empty-headed in its ideas about positive masculinity. And the weird thing? Leto's kinda great as Skeletor.

If only SPIDER-NOIR dared the same strange, belligerent corners of the genre as its nervy lead, this middling Marvel effort might have been the stuff dreams are… ah, you get it.

I realize I’m still relatively new to the Chicago Critics Film Festival, but is it possible this is its friskiest fest on record? My thoughts on this year’s spicy offerings:

THE PROJECTIONIST: A lyrical ode to movies and a full-circle moment for director Alexandre Rockwell, who returns to the monochrome and crime textures of IN THE SOUP and delivers a career highlight for Vondie Curtis-Hall.

I don’t know who’s living the bigger lie: people who say the Eighties are dead or people who refuse to let it die. Either way, DEATH FIGHT FOREVER is here, coated in Saturday morning sugar, and unsurprisingly, it’s fun.

Luminous Keke Palmer notwithstanding, I did not enjoy THE 'BURBS, a streaming time-sink that strips away the interesting genre elements from Joe Dante's delightfully wacko movie and replaces them with chardonnay and kindness. Why was this over five hours long?

SHELTER: Statham's grizzled dad-warrior protects his found daughter from a rogue MI6. Reasonably entertaining, pretty dry.
WORLDBREAKER: A generic post-apocalyptic drama that's better at drama than apocalypse, and deserves a sequel.

Despite my ability to say “pretty please” quite well, I have once again been denied remote press access to the Sundance Film Festival. So, in lieu of review coverage, I wanted to highlight the five films from the fest that I’m most excited to see this year:
