I learned this nice feature in Wireshark from a gentleman named Curtis Whipple when I posted to LinkedIn. You can use Wireshark to display a packet diagram. Go to Edit -> Preferences -> Layout and select Packet Diagram for Pane 3. You can click the diagram as well.

All OSPF inter-area traffic must traverse through Area 0, right? Not so fast! In my latest post I show how some of the topologies you see in the books are a bit convenient and don't show you the full picture. Find out more in my latest post.

One of the biggest problems we have in our community is the negative comments that are almost guaranteed with every technical post.
a) You don't HAVE to comment.
b) Is your comment adding value?
c) What's the wording of your comment?
d) Would it be better to discuss in private?

Here's a followup on what an unmanaged switch (not VLAN-aware) should do with a 802.1Q-tagged frame. It should forward it!
The TPID is in place of EtherType. The switch should not concern itself with payload. YMMV, though...

Why do we need native VLANs on a trunk link? This seemingly simple question from my friend @andylapteff has more depth to it than you would think. I referred to the original 802.1Q standard from 1998 to find some answers. It comes down to compatibility.
