One morning, a farmer named Jean visited a veterinary clinic with his two-year-old dog, called Bobby. The dog had been sick for two days. Jean was worried because Bobby was not eating well and had started vomiting.
Veterinarian: Good morning, sir. How can I help you today?
Farmer: Good morning, Doctor. I have brought my dog because he is sick. He has not been eating properly for two days, and he vomited several times yesterday.
Veterinarian: I am sorry to hear that. How old is your dog?
Farmer: He is two years old.
Veterinarian: When did you first notice that he was sick?
Farmer: I first noticed the problem two days ago. He refused his food and spent most of the day lying down.
Veterinarian: Has he been vomiting or having diarrhoea?
Farmer: Yes, Doctor. He vomited twice yesterday. This morning, I also noticed that his stool was softer than usual.
Veterinarian: Have you noticed any blood in the vomit or stool?
Farmer: No, I have not seen any blood.
Veterinarian: Is he drinking water normally?
Farmer: He drinks a little water, but less than he normally does.
Veterinarian: What do you usually feed him?
Farmer: I usually give him leftover food from our meals, sometimes mixed with porridge. Yesterday, he ate some food that had been left outside for several hours.
Veterinarian: Has he been vaccinated, especially against diseases such as rabies and canine parvovirus?
Farmer: He received some vaccinations when he was young, but I do not remember exactly which ones. I did not bring his vaccination card.
Veterinarian: Have you given him any medicine since he became sick?
Farmer: No, Doctor. I have not given him any medicine.
Veterinarian: Does your dog usually stay at home, or does he move around the neighbourhood?
Farmer: He stays at home most of the time, but sometimes he goes outside and plays with other dogs.
Veterinarian: Has he been in contact with any sick dogs recently?
Farmer: I saw him playing with a neighbour's dog last week, but I do not know whether that dog was sick.
Veterinarian: Have you noticed any other changes, such as coughing, difficulty breathing, or unusual behaviour?
Farmer: No coughing or breathing problems. He is just weak, does not want to play, and spends most of his time lying down.
Veterinarian: Thank you for giving me this information. I will now examine Bobby, check his temperature and hydration, and assess his general condition. Depending on the findings, we may need to perform additional tests to determine the cause of his illness.
Farmer: Thank you, Doctor. I hope he will get better soon.
Veterinarian: We will do our best to help him. For now, please do not give him any medicine without veterinary advice.
