We cannot turn a blind eye to the fact that there are children who do not go to school. We cannot silence our conscience when we see a mother lacking the means to feed her children. We cannot ignore the many people around us who are suffering, alone and vulnerable. We need to commit ourselves to the charity and closeness of the Good Samaritan who did not remain indifferent upon seeing misfortune, but took responsibility for his brother’s life. Cases of infant bleeding surged last year as more parents refused critical vitamin K injections for their newborns.
The vitamin helps the body form blood clots, and the CDC recommends a vitamin K shot within six hours of birth. wapo.st/4zw4jaM

For anyone who thought infectious diseases would go away — here is a snapshot of where we are
🦠 H5N1: 3 human cases, including 1 death, in Yakima County, Washington.
🦠 Influenza: An estimated 1 million illnesses, 16,000 hospitalizations and 900 deaths in the U.S. already this season.
🦠 Measles: 4,852 confirmed U.S. cases, 6 deaths and 43 new outbreaks this year.
🦠 Ebola: > 10,000 confirmed cases and >5,000 deaths in the DRC, with cases in Kenya and Nigeria.
🦠 Dengue: Over 1.84 million suspected cases across the Americas this year.
This is just the tip of the iceberg and doesn’t include COVID-19, RSV, STI’s, AMR and other threats
Ignoring infectious diseases doesn’t make them disappear. It costs us time and lives. Invest in vaccination, surveillance, research and the people who protect our health.

Machines are tools, not persons. Today, some propose granting these systems rights, or even legal personhood. Such an approach risks obscuring human responsibility and leaving those who suffer harm to confront a faceless entity.
Seven Havens proves itself as a worthy successor to Last Airbender and Legend of Korra with a powerful, emotional, and thrilling final quartet of episodes.

ALT Seven Havens ends its first season going for the heart with a powerful quartet of episodes which go very, very dark and answer some big questions while raising others. It’s safe to say after 13 episodes, Seven Havens is a worthy successor to both The Last Airbender and Legend of Korra. Bring on Book 2. Score: 9

For weeks, some racist Western media outlets published story after story against Professor Jason Arday, at times every few hours, branding him a plagiarist. They hounded him relentlessly, and the pressure became too much for him. He committed suicide in August, aged just 41.
This week, he was cleared of plagiarism yet again. A fresh investigation by the academic publisher Taylor & Francis found nothing to support the allegations. Of the four formal investigations into his work, not one substantiated the charge.
The same publications that hunted him are now silent. They have not corrected their reporting, and they have not had the decency to admit they were wrong.
This is how hard it is to be Black in a deeply racist world, and to succeed where they expect you to fail. Even those who present themselves as the moral conscience of the Western world have nothing to say.
In a shameful act, the Oxford Reform Society has invited Nathan Cofnas, the self-described "race realist" who first raised the plagiarism allegations against Professor Arday, to speak at Oriel College next month. Oriel College, the home of Cecil John Rhodes’ statue.
These institutions are racist. Sadly, Black leaders have failed to build rival institutions that give Black people respect and intellectual dignity.
We are forced to endure disrespect because our leadership has failed us completely. Black billionaires line up to hand money to these institutions in exchange for meaningless honorary titles, instead of building our own.
May Professor Arday's soul rest in peace. You were hounded to your death by publications that today do not even have the shame to admit they were wrong.
Posiblemente sea un mal de la política de esa zona, pero NO me imagino una situación donde se acepte buscar a la madre de una candidata para atacarla, cuando están distanciadas desde que tenía 12 años y la madre siguió casada con el hombre acusado de violar a su hija.
Vivek Ramaswamy’s ad is apparently unprecedented. It would be just awful to activate all the members of a politician’s family to attack them…as the Democrats did with every member of RFK’s family.

Acton's mother has been estranged from her daughter for 48 years because she sided with her husband (Acton's stepfather) when Acton reported that her stepfather had sexually assaulted her. That is different than RFK Jr.'s family, whose criticism of RFK Jr is focused on policy. dispatch.com/story/news/loc…

Pope Leo XIV’s doctors have confirmed that the tumor removed on October 13 was a lung adenocarcinoma and that the disease was localized.
