Varied Cognitive Training Boosts Learning and Memory
Recent research suggests that varied cognitive training is more effective than repetition in improving working memory in older adults.
The study found that participants who practiced different memory tasks showed the greatest improvement, especially in tasks requiring working memory.
Although this group was slower to see initial progress, they ultimately reached higher levels of performance.
This result supports the idea that diverse practice promotes better learning by fostering mutual growth among related skills.
The researchers emphasize that working memory is a crucial cognitive ability for language comprehension, problem-solving, and reasoning.
These findings could lead to more effective strategies for maintaining mental sharpness as we age.

There is a widespread fallacy (spread even by those who know better) that warming has already crossed the 1.5C or even 2C threshold. That is simply false (see e.g. @richardabetts article: nature.com/articles/d41586-0…).
We must call out unhelpful falsehoods regardless of the source.
