.@drgoodyear calls patients the force vector of change in cancer care. For too long they've sat in the back seat of their own care. We wrote this series to put patients back in the driver's seat. Read it, check it against your own research, then share it with someone who will use it.

.@drgoodyear draws a line between survival and survivorship. Survival is whether you're alive five years out. Survivorship is how well you're living when you get there. Studies now link chemotherapy to faster biological aging in survivors. Patients shouldn't take that finding as a reason to skip treatment. We can get as good at survivorship as we've gotten at survival.

I wrote The Immunotherapy Revolution because I kept explaining the same supplements and off-label drugs to one patient after another. A book could reach people who would never be my patients. Much of that book was ahead of its time. Doctors now talk openly about the gut microbiome and off-label drugs. On Monday, @drgoodyear and I release the first of six short books on where cancer care goes next.

Dr. Nathan Goodyear @drgoodyear estimates that only 2 to 3% of IV chemotherapy ever reaches the tumor. WCI goes straight to the tumor and turns a patient’s own cancer into the trigger for a body-wide immune response.

Replying to @drgoodyear
@drgoodyear points out that 70 to 80% of tumors either wall immune cells out or never alert the immune system at all. WCI treats from inside the tumor to get past the pressure, scar tissue, and acid barriers that tumors build against immune cells. .@drgoodyear pointed out where Galleri does its best work. It performs worst on breast and prostate cancer, where we already have good screening. It performs best on cancers like pancreatic, stomach and liver, where there is no good screening test and most patients get diagnosed late. That makes Galleri a pancreatic cancer test more than a breast cancer test.

I have subscribed to Nat's YT about a month ago. Her channel has really excellent topics. Glad to see Dr Goodyear going for a collab on her podcast. Perfect timing, since I can listen to this now while working out here in the gym.

Dr. Nathan Goodyear joined @nathalieniddam on Longevity with Nathalie Niddam to explain why cancer and longevity are so closely linked, even though medicine usually treats them as separate conversations. @drgoodyear walks through how destroying a tumor where it sits can engage the immune system against cancer elsewhere in the body. Doctors call that response the abscopal effect. The full episode is here. natniddam.com/podcast/6nbp6b…

Almost nothing in cancer comes down to one exposure. Repetition is what does it. You damage a tissue, it repairs, you damage it again, and you keep running that repair machinery until something copies wrong. Somebody years ago described cancer as a wound that never heals, and that description has stayed with me. Two glasses with dinner and eight on a Saturday are not the same input even when the weekly total matches. One is something the body absorbs into a routine. The other is something it has to recover from.

This past Friday's airing of The GoodWill Show was a fantastic one and I felt it was worth another share. Swathi, a former WCI patient with papillary thyroid cancer, was told the plan was to remove the thyroid. She went looking for another option instead and that's how she discovered us. She found ablation, and she found out on the operating table that her two doctors had gone to medical school together and had not spoken in twenty years. 00:00 Welcome 01:02 How thyroid cancer is usually treated 02:23 What life looks like after the thyroid comes out 06:09 Dr. Williams on preserving organs 07:49 Audience question, what causes thyroid cancer 10:44 Audience question, pregnancy and thyroid cancer 13:45 Swathi joins the show 14:44 Her health before the diagnosis 17:06 The docuseries where she first saw Dr. Goodyear 20:17 The biopsy and the phone call 22:15 Being told it was a good cancer 24:28 Researching surgery and deciding against it 27:45 Six weeks at Dr. Goodyear's clinic 29:10 The scan where they could not find the tumor 32:29 Choosing the procedure 33:15 Why radiofrequency ablation instead of cryoablation 35:34 The different types of ablation explained 37:03 Treatment day in Mexico City 38:27 Discovering the connection between her doctors 39:18 Dr. Goodyear finds out 41:49 Medical school, and twenty years apart 43:07 Why she calls cancer the best thing that happened to her 46:38 The stage four patients she met in the clinic 49:32 Let's see what your body can do 51:37 Recovery and the follow up scan 56:51 Audience question, why Mexico City 59:37 Audience question, why freezing instead of cutting 01:03:13 Hope means confidence in tomorrow 01:03:22 Final words for Swathi 01:05:49 Swathi's advice to anyone facing a diagnosis
