What was today's autumn statement about? Tax cuts funded by planned (and undeliverable) cuts to public spending
Chancellor said the tax cuts aren't inflationary? Why not? 🧐 I think the answer is that they are paid for by reductions in public spending. obr.uk/docs/dlm_uploads/E030…

Impact of #autumnstatement2023 summed up perfectly by OBR assessment of living standards: fall in living standards still represents the largest reduction since ONS records began in 1950. That’s some record of economic failure!

The world stood with Israel after the merciless slaughter and terror of October 7. But now we are watching Israel mercilessly slaughter 200 children a day in Gaza. Israel is killing a child every 7 minutes. Grief should never be a cry for war. Revenge is poisonous. Collective punishment is evil. Killing Gazas children because of the sins of Hamas is sick. Two wrongs don’t make a right. The terrorized have now become the terrorizers. The “cure” is as bad as the disease. More violence does not heal the wounds of violence… it just creates new wounds. We cannot kill children to show that killing children is wrong. In battling the beast we must not become the beast. Ceasefire now. Release the hostages now. Stop the violence now. – at Tennessee, USA

More than 420 children are reportedly being killed or injured in Gaza every day – a number which should shake each of us to our core. Read my full statement at the @UN Security Council today:

I join with the Patriarchs and Heads of Churches in Jerusalem calling for a humanitarian ceasefire so that aid can safely reach the innocent civilians of Gaza.

Awful news: Ahli Anglican Hospital in Gaza City has just been hit by a missile. Thankfully no one injured, but one of the floors in the diagnostic building was partially destroyed. Israel says it doesn’t target civilians or non military institutions, but it keeps on happening.

Christians held a prayer vigil outside World Vision this week, calling on them to stop banking with @Barclays - the largest funder of fossil fuels in Europe. My latest piece for the @ChurchTimes on growing pressure for charities to clean up their banking. churchtimes.co.uk/articles/2…
