A lot being made of Aston Villa as the biggest spenders in Europe this summer, but in sifting through to find the most accurate figures possible, it turns out they'll be in profit for the summer if Jhon Durán joins West Ham (as expected)
Spend ~£145m
Recouped ~£160m

A reminder that due to the IOC's short-sighted tender process, the BBC's Olympics coverage is again limited to one channel (plus an iPlayer stream).
I think the BBC are anticipating a backlash by viewers for their limited Olympics rights as they’ve just uploaded a Q&A.
In a section why they don’t have more coverage, the article says:
“As much as we'd like to, we can't buy everything we want.” bbc.com/sport/articles/cjk3v…

He is the perfect player for us. Him in behind the Watkins would be incredible. Replaces the goals and assists we’ve lost with Diaby and Luiz, also a great set piece and penalty taker. His quality of passing is incredible too. #avfc

João Félix has never scored more than 8 League goals in a season in a Top 5 League.
The last time he started over 18 League games in a season was 2019/20.
He's undoubtedly talented but maddeningly inconsistent.
I think Aston Villa can do better.

What is Southgate's legacy? My piece on how he made them competitive again and made people care again. A giant of English football.

Newsletter: Goldman Sachs has called BS on Generative AI, and I believe that it's time that everybody follows suit - generative AI is unreliable, unsustainable, requires an entire rebuild of America's power grid, and is most decidedly not the future.

A dream? You’ve played together on the same team for the last 3 years 😂
🗣️ Alisha Lehmann on being with Douglas Luiz at #Juventus:
“For Douglas and me to be together in the same club is a dream. We have often played in different cities, so being able to have these great adventures in the same place is something wonderful.” 🤝❤️ [@charlotteharpur]

Welcome to #avfc Omar Khedr. Here he is giving some water to a cat that entered the pitch in a Zed FC game last year. I love the guy already.

Cesc Fabregas is a superb analyst and he’s bang on here - it’s always Southgate needs to get the best out of Foden or England need to get the best out of Foden. That might be so but, ultimately, Foden needs to get the best out of Foden.

‘Lesser mortals’ !!! I’m going thru chemo. Still working, parenting, doing the housework, making the tea… I’m sick, in pain, worried about finances, scared. I’m glad Kate felt well enough to attend, but Allison Pearson can fuck right off!

Two big bits of 20mph data.
Since the change in speeds:
- 20% drop in vehicle damage claims according to insurance company
- Casualties on roads drops to lowest level outside pandemic
Almost like it was a good idea underpinned by strong evidence...
