A Squiggle Finds a Home - A Marfa Story
For the last 5 years I have stared at the squiggle floor more than any other nft collection.. since this was a piece of art the aesthetics had to be perfect.. after all the purpose of owning it was not only its story but its appearance.. or so I thought.. Flash forward to last month at my first @artblocks_io Marfa.. an event I have wanted to attend for years but took until now to make happen.. That feeling changed.. It was no longer just a piece of art & art history that I wanted to own a part of, but the representation of a community & movement I took far too long realizing I belonged to.
I still have a hard time describing that weekend to people in a way that doesn’t make it sound like I joined a cult.. @ArtOnBlockchain has created something that is impossible to explain and must be felt to understand.. as it were..
I came home with a new found vigor in my mission to finally obtain a squiggle & lower my aesthetic standards since now this was representing a community, not just a piece of art or the story of its creation..
I spent the next few weeks staring at the floor & placing offers.. but none spoke to me, & I fell back into my old indecision about color, spread and amplitude.. Until last night. Staring back at me when I opened my screen was squiggle #7971 which was not only the literal floor token, but by far the most aligned with my desires out of all those I have debated over the years.. I quickly put in an offer because I have strict no fomo rules about purchases, until I showed my partner and he looked at me & said ‘you didnt buy it already? That’s the best one you’ve ever shown me, won’t you regret if it sells?’
Touché.
Welcome home #7971. I chose to buy it from my OG minting wallet from 2021 to close the loop of the first collection I felt attracted to in the space back then but never obtained until now. Oddly enough I used that address by mistake when registering for Marfa and it is where my friendship bracelet was minted.. an accidental if not poetic mistake. I will be moving them both over to my main proceededwithcaution.eth wallet shortly to live with the rest of my long term collections (predominantly @DesLucrece pieces), but felt it needed the provenance of going through that wallet on its way home.
Oh.. If we met in Marfa this year it’s because I was the meat bag behind the camera turning you into a @PixelmixNFT Flower of Marfa. If I did so and you have yet to enter your eth address via the QR code.. please do so asap so @thisismycrypto3 can airdrop you the community edition of the finished artwork.. if the QR code isn't working or you lost it, dm me and we'll work it out.
Cannot wait until Marfa 2026.

Had a great conversation with @johnkarp at Marfa about in-person community networks, activations, and engagements. Love to support other builders and founders.
Pixelmix is on the wall.

I didn’t scrap my Marfa post, I just never finished it.. stay tuned for that, but in the meantime, my first appreciation post goes right back at @thisismycrypto3 for trusting me to representing his art and his ethos in such an important way as we do at Marfa. 🫡
I've started and scrapped this Marfa thoughts post so many times..
There are so many people I want to thank, so much gratitude I have for the community of artists, collectors, patrons, supporters that we have all found ourselves a part of, so much so that I find it hard to fully articulate my thoughts without rambling... but c'est la vie, here we go..
First thanks goes to my iPad wearing co-conspirator, @e22vault. This weekend truly would not have been as great of a success without him running around with a backpack full of batteries, a wifi router, a printer, an iPad, supplies, the kitchen sink. We are nothing without the people that lift us up and he did a ton of lifting this weekend.
Second, thanks to the whole ArtBlocks team, but specifically Patrick (@yoyopatricio) and @DeFiStaker and Melissa for running the entire weekend and helping organize the Artist Fair.
To the many people that took the time to hear our pitch about Pixelmix and who got their portrait taken to become a Constellation Star, thank you. We finished with 175 total captures over the course of the weekend which I think is pretty rad. Thank you thank you thank you for taking the time.
To the artists putting on shows, galleries, fairs, and activations, the time and care that you put into your craft was more than evident and without you, Marfa doesn't exist.
To the galleries hosting artists, events, gatherings, and shows, you gave us all the space to connect and commune with each other, the spark of conversation, and now I know what a plastic cactus is... maybe...
Lastly, thank you to @ArtOnBlockchain and @artblocks_io .. because of the vision and innovation you've brought to this space, digital and web3 art has made its home in Marfa and this migration is
a journey of self-discovery, (re)connection, and recharging every year.
I'm sure I'll have more things to say later on but for now, thank you!
