Look what’s lurking on page 118 of the Budget document… Once again, the government has delegated one of our most politically salient questions to an unaccountable body of experts … 👇 “For all the Budget’s uneventfulness, there was buried in the small print something more pernicious and revealing of this government’s priorities. Tucked away on page 118 of the Budget document, the Treasury announced that, from next spring, employers will be allowed to recruit certain foreign workers on lower salaries than the current rules permit. That is to say, the government is making it easier for businesses to rely on immigration rather than recruiting and training Brits. Let us not forget we have a million Neets. While Alan Milburn beavers away on his long-awaited report into the youth employment crisis and the government pays lip service to its commitment to tackling it, Burnham and Healey have decided to make it easier to hire from abroad. What is the purpose of spending billions educating our young people who are then unable to secure jobs? Or then spending billions more supporting them as dependents on the state? It should be a truth too obvious to state that a government’s first responsibility is to its own citizens and ensuring they have a reasonable chance of getting a job, but then such sentiments can no longer be taken for granted. And it is not just this one concession. Elsewhere in the Budget are plans to give some migrant workers longer to find another job if their employment ends, as well as expanding visas for foreign graduates and allowing more international students to remain in Britain after finishing their degrees. Where did this change to salary thresholds come from? Tellingly, it was recommended by the ‘Migration Advisory Committee’, an influential body headed by a handful of academics but which most people aren’t even aware exists. Once again, the government has delegated one of our most politically salient questions to an unaccountable body of experts. But ultimately the buck stops with ministers. The Migration Advisory Committee’s members are appointed by the home secretary, and its recommendations are not binding. This is a familiar Whitehall trick: turning a political choice into an administrative inevitability. For a government which claims to want to ‘Get Britain Working’, making it easier to recruit workers from abroad while almost a million young Brits remain languishing without work is an odd way of going about it. And even more tragic is what it suggests: that Labour appears to have so little faith in the people that it governs” Spectator.

I see Matt Goodwin is complaining about Restore Britain supporters not voting for Reform - You laughed at mass deportations - You want to assimilate migrants - You compared us to the National Front - You said we would fade into irrelevance - You called us absurd - You said remigration is divorced from reality - You insulted good friends of yours because they joined Restore - You said you picked up most support from Nigerians We're not doing this anymore Our votes do not belong to Reform UK We are Restore Britain

I admit it. @KemiBadenoch gave an impressive response to the supine Labour budget yesterday. She surgically took apart the Chancellor of the Exchequer and rightly quoted the OBR in condemning Labours fiscal indolence. She is the only leading opposition politician speaking clearly about the terrifying borrowing nightmare and debt and interest payment scandal engulfing this country. Kemi says that this country is about to ‘collapse’. She is wrong. The collapse has already taken place. We now have to save what we can from this Labour Titanic that seeks to drown us all. The leader of His Majesty’s opposition is both intellectually and fiscally heads and shoulders above ‘PM’ Andy Burnham. I suspect that even the Chancellor of the Exchequer realises that. It might be time for us all to get behind Kemi for now. 🤷🏽‍♂️

Robert Jenrick finding new ways to make a holy show of himself No contrition for representing a party chock full of racists and misogynists… laying the blame on the people who uncovered it A rolling embarrassment

Reform have a problem with women. Sophie Ridge asks Robert Jenrick about Daisy Coopers claim that Nigel Farage pushed a female MP. Jenrick responds ‘I’m sick to death of these pathetic Westminster events … ‘some petty bolshy MP got in the way’ and he ‘doesn’t care’. #bbcqt

Why would any right wing person vote for this? If you’re a socialist, I’d understand.
Anyone believing that the Conservatives will go into the next election representing the right hasn’t gone to working class areas and spoke to people on the street, the pubs, and building sites etc Zero chance. The Reform vote is and will be higher than the polls suggest

What is Rob so afraid of? He knows it’s racist. You can see it in the contortions he goes through to avoid saying so. He once had the courage to stand against discrimination. Now he lacks the backbone to call it out. A shadow of the politician he once was.
‘Is calling Kemi Badenoch a “Nigerian scammer” racist, yes or no?’ ‘…I’m not on your show to talk about what a journalist has tweeted.’ Reform's Robert Jenrick refuses to engage with @Lewis_Goodall's question about Raheem Kassam's comments on the Tory leader.

Kemi Badenoch: This showman PM is treating the job like reality TV. Anyone still repeating “14 years” needs to read this. Kemi is a serious politician. Burnham is behaving like a man who’s hit his personal jackpot, rather than a PM for dangerous times. thetimes.com/article/7925acf…

Reform UK Sunderland have serious issues with their reporting of interests. The @SunderlandUK Council, led by @CllrChrisEynon of @ReformUkWear needs to urgently investigate what is going on. There’s a large scale Reform UK non-declaration of business interests. Ciara Hudspith / Chris Eynon - partners and have discrepancy between their ROIs. Heather Finlay - hasn’t reported a second interest on her ROI (after we identified a first missing one). David Wales - hasn’t reported an interest on his ROI. Tommy Steele - failed to declare building company employment, a company that has worked on a major Sunderland project. Carol Giles - no disclosure of Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust (CNTW NHS Trust) employment. Janis Berzemnieks - non disclosure of his GXO Logistics employment. Paul Donaghy - claims he is a consultant but doesn’t list any interests on his ROI. His consulting company was dissolved in April, and was not declared. He has had 10 companies struck off due to not submitting documentation. Failure without reasonable excuse to register a disclosable pecuniary interest is both a Code of Conduct breach and a criminal offence under Section 34 of the Localism Act 2011. There’s then the case of Glen Gibbins, who said Nigerians should be melted down to fill potholes. He is still a councillor. There’s also David Laing, still a Reform UK Sunderland councillor despite him refusing to confirm whether he stood for the BNP twice (in 2006 & 7). Sunderland Reform UK is a shambles.

This is John Simpson's house. He works as a churchwarden. He told @rowenamason he bought a company with multi-million contracts of telecom infra in Iran just to wind it down. Don't be like John.
EXCL: Nigel Farage’s newest billionaire donor was in business with a powerful Iranian religious foundation under the authority of the country’s supreme leader, raising questions about his past dealings with the hardline republic. Hossein Ghandehari, also called Sasan, was little known in the UK until he pledged to give millions to Reform UK this summer and donated £50,000 to Farage to cover the cost of two passes for the Davos World Economic Forum. Cracking story from @rowenamason theguardian.com/politics/202…
