My oldest son has been wrestling Varsity since 8th grade. He’s now a sophomore & spent his summer lifting, club wrestling & attending camps at Penn State & Iowa
Over the last two years, he’s mentioned a few times that he wants to be a captain his senior year. His coach has always given that role to seniors, so that’s been something he’s been striving for
This month he’s been going to open mats at school a few nights a week at the school with his coach & some teammates
When I ask him how it’s going I get the typical response from a 15 year old “Good. I’m hungry what’s for dinner?”
Hi coach called me tonight
He said the work my son put in this summer shows. He’s been helping other kids, teaching them things he learned at camp & has naturally stepped into the role as the team leader
He said my son would be the first underclassman named captain in his time as a coach. He said he’s clearly earned it & he expects him to lead the team the next 3 years on & off the mat
