Pensioners are by far our wealthiest demographic as a nation. Please explain why 2.3 million pensioners living in millionaire households should receive £300 every Christmas on top of £13k a year of free money. 40% of UK children live in poverty.
Unite has always been clear that any and all cuts to winter fuel are simply picking the pockets of pensioners while the richest in society keep getting wealthier. The decision should be fully reversed. Money should be found by introducing a #WealthTax. channel4.com/news/pm-says-mo…

Mumsnet when their government gets criticised for banning kissing in porn for being too degenerate:
I know, it’s so frustrating. Us dried up old Karens/ liberal white women (delete as your preferred sexist slur) putting children, our boundaries & human rights above men’s wank material

The Left in the UK will very happily argue both that software engineers earning 50k living in house shares are living untold lives of luxury they should be taxed on more, but also that train drivers on 76k are poor underpaid penniless waifs
If you are a Londoner and you are Anti TfL worker, then you are not a real one.

How to get people back to work: 1. Lower minimum wage to £7.50 2. Abolish employers NI for under 25s 3. Remove right to benefits for anyone who's been out of work for over 2 years, or has never worked 4. Abolish all visas for unskilled labour, inc care and fake skill visas
Andy Burnham will be told to spend up to £6bn more on getting people back into work in a major welfare review, The Telegraph understands. 🔗 telegraph.co.uk/politics/202…

Wow, the porn ban is hitting the global economy worse than I thought
JUST IN: Nearly $4,000,000,000,000.00 wiped from the stock market today

The minimum wage is £12.71 an hour, plus employer NICs brings it up to about £15.21 an hour. Plus overheads for employment - payroll, management, administration, sick and paternity / maternity leave, etc - total cost to an employer is about £20 an hour.
The minimum wage is £12.71 an hour. Nobody on this panel is on £12.71 an hour. @nowak_paul on #BBCQT

If I am selling goods or services, I pay VAT at 20% on the value my staff produce. That means I have to charge their value at £24 an hour just to break even. Once you bear in mind that most businesses like to make a profit, you'd ideally be charging about £30 an hour (profit £4).

To put that into context, suppose I run a café making home made sandwiches- fresh bread and ingredients, carefully made, delivered to your table. If my staff take only 30 minutes on you - preparation, serving, paying and cleaning - that's still £15 on your bill.

I mostly think the stuff about an early election is tripe, but giving £2bn of borrowing out as helicopter cash is very much a thing a politician would do before calling one
This Labour government is giving millions of families £100 off their energy bills. The Tories voted to block it.

There's a lot of very good evidence for banning foreign born folk from standing for parliament- just look at Boris Johnson.

Let's make it a round £100bn then
🚨 WATCH: Andy Burnham attacks the Tories' proposed £36bn cuts to the welfare bill "They're putting a number before people... if they were to do that, there'd be another big number for the utter chaos that they cause in people's lives"

So if I *with full consent* make a video of me with a partner where they gag on my penis during oral sex, I could be sent to prison? Is this a blanket law to help the government arrest young rioters and delinquents on spurious charges?

Society gets more of the behaviours it rewards most - this is called incentive. Skilled employment alone is not a path to financial security for most families. This is the biggest change from the boomer era they will never understand.
Piers Morgan told a law student she was wasting her brain on OnlyFans. She told him she earns about double what he does. Then he asked what her future kids would think. "They can cry in a Ferrari." Piers spent the whole interview trying to make her regret it. She never stopped smiling. In the video below, he keeps pushing and she keeps winning. Her name is Elle Brooke. She was a law student at university in Southampton. She saw how much money other people were earning online and thought: I can do this too. So she dropped out. Piers tells her she obviously has a great brain. Why pack in a career as a lawyer? Her answer: she wouldn't have made much as a solicitor anyway. "I earned that in two weeks now." He asks how much she makes. She asks how much he makes. "Maybe, like, double that." She won't give a number. Only that she's in the top 0.01% of OnlyFans creators "in monetary terms." Then he tries family. Surely they're disappointed? "My dad is dead and my mum is on my payroll." Doing what? "Admin." Her mum doesn't brag about it at the pub, she says, but she's supportive. Piers warns her that some people watching will think she sounds awful. She shrugs: "With a little bit of good looks and hard work, you can become a millionaire." Even Piers admits it: "The bottom line is she's making millions doing what she enjoys doing." His last shot: in 15 years she'll tell him he was right. "I'll pick you up in my Bugatti." Here's what happened after. She later said that interview basically doubled her earnings. And in January 2024 she knocked out AJ Bunker in the third round to win the Misfits Boxing women's middleweight title. Piers thought he was watching a bright girl throw away a law career. She walked out with a viral clip, by her own account double the income, and within a year a title belt. The person asking the questions isn't always the one in control.

Censorship of pornography is a civil liberties issue dressed up as "save the children". The recent ID verification rules prevented citizens from viewing anti government protests without identifying who they were, because they might be deemed "offensive".
The Ministry of Justice wrote a whole page telling grown adults what they can watch in their own bedrooms, and it starts Friday. UK boys, you have four days to decide if you would rather obey Westminster or a woman in North America who never asks permission to take a seat. #UK

The government banning the popular depiction of lawful activities between two consenting adults gives it effectively carte blanche to send to prison anyone who consumes pornography on the internet, which is a significant proportion of the population- especially 18-40s.

If you don't understand why the government would desire the freedom to imprison young people on spurious grounds, I suggest you look at Paris. Those riots are coming here, one way or another.

The one thing we know for sure about populists is that they lie. Populism is by definition a lie - you are telling people what they want to hear to gain their vote. Reform fans in the UK would do well to pay attention.
In terms of a government shifting the goalposts, this is one of the biggest I can remember. Italy goes full this thing is not that thing. Meloni targets Italy’s wealthy with ‘exit tax’ telegraph.co.uk/business/202…

The tax free allowance intrinsically feels like it should be higher, but it's not a very effective tax cut for the amount it costs - it'd be about £65bn to increase the allowance to 20k, saving 2 adults working full time £250 a month.
How much do you think the tax free allowance should be?

For the same money, you could cut marginal rates for that working couple by 10p (8p NI = £40bn, 2p income tax = £16bn), and still have £9bn left to spend. Two adults working full time on average wages (£40k apiece) would then save £458 a month.

At the root of Britain's problems there are a few major issues. This is one of them. In 2008, Britons had the same income per capita as Americans. Real wages (adjusted for inflation) have stayed essentially flat since then.
Mindblowing chart from OBR. In 2029 real household disposable income per person expected to be just 1% higher than in 2019. What an unbelievably awful decade. It used to grow by 2%+ every year, not 1% in 10 years.

This, alongside the other major issues, can't be fixed with a single policy. They require a major overhaul of how government works.
