Pliny (112 AD) said Christians were spared only if they burned incense to Caesar.
They weren’t killed for believing in Jesus, but for refusing to acknowledge Caesar’s divinity.
They tolerated other gods just not exclusive truth.
Not much has changed.

Last fall, the "March for Life" (anti-abortion) took place in Vienna. Left-wing groups staged an aggressive counter-protest. Police were present in large numbers.
