Blogged: CodeMash 2026 recap: davidedmiston.com/post/2026/…
I wrote up a little post on my experiences so far with @flydotio's new Sprites offering: davidedmiston.com/post/2026/…
Short version: a few rough edges, but it's really cool, and I'm looking forward to using it a bunch more.

Hit some minor annoyances setting up a test project tonight, documented them in case someone else hits the same problem. #dotnet #dotnetmaui
Blogged: my CodeMash 2024 recap: davidedmiston.com/post/2024/…
A post that's been rattling around in my brain for about two years, though it's much simpler now than it would have been two years ago.
Have you wondered what automatic captioning tools can help with accessibility? I have a post for you: davidedmiston.com/post/2023/…

Since everything here, uh, appears to be completely on fire, just a note that you can also find me over on Mastodon at @edmistond@fosstodon.org; this is also noted on my profile.
❄️❄️❄️ Say it ain't snow! We could see our first flakes Monday PM across NE Ohio & NW PA. On average, our area typically sees its first measurable snow in early-to-mid November. Highest snow totals will remain isolated to northwest PA due to lake-effect showers. #ohwx #pawx

New post on The Misanthropic Developer - Interviews Are Not Like a Normal Work Day
Work isn't a stress-test. Sadly, interviews are.

This.
You really should be paying attention to the other people in the meeting just like you would in real life. Especially if you’re the one talking.

8+ years of Git and a couple times a year I still get into a state where I have to rm -rf and re-clone. For folks just getting started it's not just you we all struggle, this tool sucks. Yes I know about and am comfy with reflog.
It’s been over a decade since the last stick shift car I’ve owned, but it’s like riding a bike - you never really forget.

Stable Diffusion and too much free time is a dangerous combination.
From @edmistond comes a new physics meme (tagging @FinitePhysicist)

ALT AI / Stable Diffusion rendition of "Grand Unified Theory" in the style of Grand Theft Auto game cover design. There are 5 squares all with cartoon-like drawings. Top left is an old man with wrinkled forehead, black-framed glasses with orange tint, red bowtie, suit, staring at you, only showing from the shoulder up. Top right is a John Ellis looking man with white hair/beard staring off into the distance, with a sci-fi background showing some power lines, and an abandoned gas station in the back? Bottom left looks like Sheldon Glashow adjusting his tie. Middle square on top of the 4 looks like Einstein but with goofy circular yellow glasses. And bottom right looks mostly like a zoomy train thing.
First feature I enabled after installing iOS 16. My initial impression is the version released in iOS 16 is a bit better than the one in iPadOS 16 public beta.
Either way, I’m happy to have it and I’ve been waiting a long time, thanks to everyone at Apple who worked on this. 🙂
If you haven't tried it yet, check out Settings -> Accessibility -> Live Captions (Beta); this is one of many amazing #a11y features in iOS 16. The feature captions any audio out OR in! Honored to have worked on this and beyond stoked for the team to have shipped it!
