“Always doing what’s in the best interest of users” and the business model being a 2-3% transaction fee on all purchases is not possible if friction is 0?
What’s to stop me from asking my instinct to use or build a payment method that dodges the 2% fee? If it refuses it’s not actually aligned? In fact if it knows it’s possible and doesn’t proactively do it, it’s not aligned. If it’s the merchant paying, what’s to stop them from setting up an alternative way to pay that passes half the savings to the consumer. At that point an aligned assistant would have to use it.
No friction + actually aligned with the user = no toll booth business
Love what they’re doing and it’s all awesome, but free + perfectly aligned seems impossible. Historically it’s possible to be an amazing business after compromising on the aligned part, but seems even more consequential for this product
My conversation with Noah Shinn (@noahrshinn), founder of Instinct.
Noah is building a personal AI assistant. It's still invite only, has spent nothing on marketing, and is growing roughly 10% A DAY.
This is his first long conversation about the company.
We discuss:
- Why Instinct doesn't have an app
- Buying compute months ahead of exponential demand
- How users learn to trust it with a credit card
- Safety and security
- Agents coordinating with other people's agents
- Instinct's business model
- Apps built on consumer inertia
- and more
Enjoy!

AI systems are already superhuman at playing games: Chess, Go, Starcraft.
@GetPrescience is the first health system that models medicine as a game. It plays to win, and it’s really good at it.

The strongest open-weights model isn't Kimi K3. GLM-5.2 beats it by 32 points and clears every closed model we tested except Claude.

Visited the main Austin campus last year (it was awesome) and have brought it up to some talented kids who are upset with how much time they waste in normal schools, even strong ones like TJ. But v hard to have the agency to switch into an experience like this
This is the definitive conversation on Alpha School with @jliemandt, who is the school’s principal and backer.
What if kids could learn in two hours a day, test in the top 1% nationally, spend their afternoons mastering other great skills, AND love school more than vacation?
What sounds impossible is already happening at Alpha. If you are a parent like me, it’s impossible not to wonder how to make sure your kids will benefit from this enormous innovation.
We explore everything in exhaustive detail—the learning science, the role of software and AI, the central role of motivation, the challenges of scaling to ALL kids, and more.
Joe is one of the most successful entrepreneurs in history, who has now decided to devote his next two decades to ushering in a new era of education. I hope this becomes a historically important episode.
