Poi ci siamo riuniti a Oslo.

In case anyone still had doubts on whose side tech markets are on, here you go: dramatic Nasdaq selloff in response to a landslide for economic populism. Democrats should learn from FDR instead of caving because democracy is at stake: “We had to struggle with the old enemies of peace—business and financial monopoly, speculation, reckless banking, class antagonism, sectionalism, war profiteering. They had begun to consider the Government of the United States as a mere appendage to their own affairs. We know now that Government by organized money is just as dangerous as Government by organized mob. Never before in all our history have these forces been so united against one candidate as they stand today. They are unanimous in their hate for me—and I welcome their hatred.” (1933)

Super-informative and -informed thread about the Oleshky ceasefire
A thread with some disjointed thoughts on this week's evacuation from Oleshky, as the ceasefire that allowed the humanitarian operation is set to expire tonight:

Well, had they consulted her, I suspect not a single phone call with Putin would ever have happened. But the real comedy gold here is the breathtaking hypocrisy: a country that practically waved the white flag over Greenland when confronted by one superpower — rather than risk a military confrontation — somehow never misses an opportunity to lecture Ukraine on why it should pursue suicidal escalation against another superpower. Apparently, standing up to a superpower is a sacred moral duty — as long as it's Ukrainians doing the dying and Greenland isn't on the line.

"let’s end the only war in Europe so that all of us can start building a future."
I don’t know if Zelenskyy watches the news, but the mood in France, Italy and Albania is not good. Large protests are underway, sometimes turning into clashes with police. In southern Italy roads are set to be blocked for the next two days. People are protesting bad education, poverty, soaring fuel prices and actual shortages of diesel and gasoline in some regions. Against this backdrop, six months before elections in France and Italy, Volodymyr Zelenskyy is asking for another €70 billion to fund an endless war that Ukraine is losing. The previous €90 billion were already extracted with huge difficulty. Hungary and Slovakia have already said they will not take part in this new financing. This is not about whether I support Zelenskyy. The economy in Ukraine is nearly stopped — by Russian strikes and by the incompetence of a wartime government. The Constitution is on pause, as one of Zelenskyy’s own friends has said. The war is taking more lives and more land, and the only answer we hear is “give Ukraine more money”. Money that Europeans no longer want to give and can no longer afford to give. Every third euro in Ukraine is now Western borrowing. To save the country we need a deal and a chance to rebuild. I do not believe Ukraine can remain an equal partner while it is this dependent on the West, or that this strategy has any long-term future. It breaks my heart that this war is destroying so much in Ukraine and causing such degradation. It also breaks my heart that European countries, including France, Italy and Albania, are going through such hard times. That is why I say again: let’s end the only war in Europe so that all of us can start building a future.

If you appreciate art, you must watch this whole video. Mind blown.🤯
Being an exceptionally talented musician is one thing. But to stand before such high-caliber fellow musicians, a large audience, and cameras—all while remaining composed, communicating skillfully and effectively, showing genuine enjoyment, and staying focused on the creative process—that is what truly amazes me.

This is the house of my childhood in the Kherson region. It stood through four years of war. It did not stand the fifth. This is what it looks like now. My first steps were here. My first books. We are losing more than walls. We are losing memory. And that is one more reason this war must end — so that other people’s houses still stand. Every day there is more destruction, more homes gone, more lives, more hope.
