I don’t need to talk about the trophies Cristiano Ronaldo has won, the goals he has scored or the sheer terror he inflicted on opposition defences. The world knows all of that.
But my favourite Ronaldo moment came towards the twilight of his career. During the 2024 Nations League, after missing a penalty, he was standing in the team huddle when the camera panned to his mother in the stands. The moment he saw her, he broke down and cried like a little kid.
Perhaps he knew he was no longer the player he once was. Perhaps he realised that he wasn’t immortal after all, that beneath all the records, trophies and greatness was just a human being who could hurt, feel and cry.
That moment will stay with me forever.
Thank you, Cris, for inspiring an entire generation and making us fall in love with this beautiful sport.❤️
