NEW: US officials are presenting a list of topics, including security guarantees and European security architecture, for upcoming negotiations to end the war in Ukraine, as issues that the United States, Europe, Ukraine, and Russia agree to discuss. Russia’s frequently reiterated positions on these topics, however, remain incompatible with the official positions and interests of the United States, Ukraine, and Europe.

Iranian sources say Mohsen Rezaei’s meeting with Vladimir Putin lasted two hours, during which he personally delivered a message from Iran’s Supreme Leader.
- Much of the discussion reportedly focused on developments in the Persian Gulf and the wider Middle East.
- Rezaei told Putin that Western responses to Iran’s demands had been unsatisfactory, reiterating that Tehran expects its conditions to be explicitly met.
- The meeting is significant not only because of the message from Iran’s Supreme Leader, whose contents remain undisclosed, but also because of its timing, as diplomatic efforts to prevent a resumption of hostilities continue.
- There is no indication that Moscow has endorsed Tehran’s conditions. However, the meeting suggests that Iran considers consultations with Russia an important part of its diplomatic positioning in the current crisis.

This may sound trite or obvious, but Xi Jinping matters greatly. I'm stating this because of what may happen after Xi dies or leaves office. It's taboo in China, and even in China-watching circles, to talk about Xi no longer ruling China, but at some point in the coming weeks, months, years, or even decades, Xi will no longer dominate China -- to "bestride the narrow world like a Colossus," as William Shakespeare said about Julius Caesar. When that happens, and especially if it happens from a sudden coup or illness, commentators will state that he actually mattered less than we thought, and that Li Qiang, or Cai Qi, or whomever replaces him will continue as before. Don't believe them.
A sustainable path forward involves more rigorous analysis of global trade patterns, reappraisal of the market-distorting effects of U.S. tariff differentials, and frank dialogue with trade partners and industry leaders about the utility and feasibility of new trade rules, writes Hugh Grant-Chapman.
