I present: more than you could ever want to know about accessing jhana. I have spent an inordinate amount of time with pleasure cultivation-- in confusion, without direction-- so I have written this in hopes you will find your way much faster than I. heart.qri.org/retreats/2026-…

Super cool to see everyone's experiments. It's easy to get stuck on a scent and never figure out what's around it, but you have some major tools available. 1) compare within a scent category, 2) vary themes around a texture, 3) mask the label and guess.
I really can’t speak highly enough of @eliadeweismann’s perfumes. He’s simply the best in the world. One-of-one. I own 100+ of his creations & I love introducing others to them too. Here’s @aaarataki trying “Lime Candy IV” with a lime La Croix:

Asher's doing a lime vs lime comparison, which is great because one will likely draw the interpretation of the other closer or strongly reject it. In both cases, you learn something about how the two lime subcategories exist in qualia space.

Imagine the gummy candy called Lime Slices and push it a little toward petrichor. That's what Asher is smelling! There is likely a little sparkliness in the scent already, so it may be enhancing the fizz of the drink.

Everyone should write about their meditations. Your experiences are valuable, and trying to systematize them will show new leverage. You can just play around and try to report it clearly. Bring your motivations, bring your curiosity! Your aesthetic sense matters.

For a simple example: don't you think it would feel good if your attention didnt have to move very far to notice a sensation? Try expanding the field of attention!

I feel like I was relatively clueless about jhanas until I wrote this article. Even though it was all there in my practice, the writing forced me to set out my beliefs clearly. Then algebraic thinking goes brrrrrr eliade.substack.com/p/on-jha…

Finally, a synth with a 'sac' parameter. Taking vocal tract synthesis to white silly places.

Today I sat for 45 minutes in meditation. While doing so, I narrated my experience. I then asked an LLM to animate what I saw and felt. Here's the result

I'm participating in "Tokyo Jazz Club" at a former capsule hotel in Jimbōchō, Tokyo. (Aug 1–11) Within this strange architecture built specifically for the act of sleeping, I'm showing Imagraph, an installation that projects images onto sleeping eyes right through your closed eyelids. Also, on August 6, I'll be putting on a performance on the 6th floor and stairwell with Miyu Imajuku (poet/artist) @mewimas and Yukasa Narisada (architect/artist). We’ll be using the performers' bodies—especially the eyes and eyelids—to share and edit our perspectives with others. Please drop by. with Nguyen Wahed (NY) @nguyenwahed

What's a good sugar for people just getting into sugars?

My Ceylon milk tea is getting better in aroma. 190F @ 3m shows the right nose. Madagascar vanilla has a good butteriness for it too. Ended up too watery though. Will maybe try milk powder. Came sugar is the wrong type-- it makes the taste too bright.

It's time. TRES #21, 红韻. Very smooth in Assam territory. A little clay-like. Faintly candy floral like rose and iris. Reminds me of the accord Fee de Lilas, but full of tea. Indistinct wood in the direction of cypress and mulch.

It is definitely not as distinct as Ruby 18, but neither does it require some... acquired taste. No salicylic bite is perceptible. Rose can give a faint cherry, but definitely not of the benzaldehyde cough medicine type. Maybe try it with rose water.

I'm getting closer to the right mix for Ceylon milk tea: salt, vanilla extract, sweetened condensed milk, and tea. Very malty! You don't need much SCM-- too much brings out caramel. @zencephalon maybe you're familiar with this flavor?

I tried to gongfu brew a big batch of broken Ceylon leaves and realized how quickly they get sour! Lower temps next time.

Something similar to this was actually instrumental in a shift toward extraversion for me.
unconventional nervous system regulation practice: you probably habitually put your attention on objects around you instead, attune to and put your attention on the negative space around you there is space between objects, space inside objects, space inside you what happens?

Banana, white chrysanthemum, sweetened condensed milk, nutmeg, white rum. I highly recommend this as a smoothie.
