Literally the best tech columnist in America. What a fucking disgrace.
After 8 years writing the tech column @washingtonpost, I am among folks who were laid off today. I’m grateful for the stories I got to tell and the impact we made on privacy, sustainability & AI. You can keep following my work on my new (free) Substack geoffreyafowler.substack.com…

Marissa was one of the journalists who won a Pulitzer Prize for her coverage of the Jan. 6 Capitol riots
I was laid off today by The Washington Post. I’m proud of the work I have done at this place — not just the award-winning work, but the stories that spurred change, that were steeped in this beautiful local community. Job tips welcome. DMs open. Or: marissalang(@)gmail(dot)com

For the past 4 years, I’ve worked with @siobhan_ogrady. She’s been the best journalist and bureau chief. Nobody has been as adamant on getting the most relevant stories, nobody has been more humane and caring in their work. This is a dark day. #shame @JeffBezos

My heart is broken. I’m sitting here nursing my newborn baby and losing my “dream job” at @washingtonpost is devastating.

Some personal news: After less than three months @washingtonpost, I was among those laid off today. Devastated for all my colleagues who were affected. Thank you to those who have reached out. I appreciate you so much. Please keep me in mind for any openings ❤️

I was laid off from The Post today, from a dream job working in visual investigations. I'm sad for affected colleagues and for the meaningful, impactful work we won't be able to complete together. But also...I'm stunned. Angry even. January alone I investigated 2 fatal shootings by federal agents in Minneapolis and feel compelled to keep going. If you want to collaborate, please DM or signal. washingtonpost.com/investiga…

My story on Elon Musk cutting safeguards at xAI is on the front page of today's @washingtonpost. I’m also among 100’s of reporters laid off. I absolutely love(d) my job, my brilliant coworkers & the thrill of reporting at the center of forces upending the world: AI & Silicon Valley’s political power

I was just laid off by The Washington Post in the middle of a warzone. I have no words. I'm devastated.
Waking up without power, heat, or running water. (Again.) But the work here in Kyiv continues. Warming up in the car, writing in pencil — pen ink freezes — by headlamp. Despite how difficult this job can be, I am proud to be a foreign correspondent at The Washington Post.

If Jeff Bezos could afford to spend $75 million on the Melania movie & $500 million for a yacht to sail off to his $55 million wedding to give his wife a $5 million ring, please don't tell me he needed to fire one-third of the Washington Post staff. Democracy dies in oligarchy.

@CNEWS ! T'as un peu changé, Thomas...

Unfortunately the Washington Post has decided to eliminate its Berlin bureau and with it my job. It's been the honor and adventure of a lifetime to be Berlin bureau chief, even if just for 6 months. So many great journalists have lost their jobs today. It's a dark day.
