The Who tearing through "A Quick One, While He's Away" on the circus stage of The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus, filmed at Intertel Studios in Wembley, London, on December 11, 1968. Roger Daltrey in fringe, Pete Townshend mid-swing, John Entwistle holding down the bass and Keith Moon pounding his Premier kit with THE WHO on the drum heads. Their mini rock opera is often called the highlight of the whole show. The Stones' TV special also featured Jethro Tull, Taj Mahal, Marianne Faithfull and The Dirty Mac, the one-off supergroup of John Lennon, Eric Clapton, Keith Richards and Mitch Mitchell. The Stones shelved the film, and it stayed in the vault until 1996. We lost Keith Moon in 1978 and John Entwistle in 2002. 🎸 The Rock and Roll Circus sat unreleased until 1996, nearly 28 years after filming. Have you seen The Who's performance in it? 🎸
