Really early concept but you can create CPUs (not like base game CPUs) into LAN mode (from the tweet below) and customize them, combination wise and movement wise. Still unfinished and runs on some basic time trial ghost file on dBP.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and World playing with dedicated server via LAN mode, doesn't require CFW, supports Switch 1, Switch 2 and emulators like Eden. Seems more stable than P2P/NSO, but untested with EUR/JPN so still TBD. w/@Adonpyy

This project was never meant to promote “free online”, this a project or proof of concept to find ways to play with less laggy conditions, as a MK player, playing MK can be extremely frustrating with laggy conditions. We won’t be releasing this after further discussion.

If a proof a concept that using dedicated servers is more stable, then why still keep using P2P for NSO? Such examples like this should not be something that players have to deal with, I believe this could also spark some conversation because the game will depend on the host.

Well, if you are here only for “free online”, go ahead and make it but we do not encourage it. You are free to wait until someone wants to make it but our goal was never to avoid paying NSO. It was only to find a better alternative to bad conditions that NSO makes for MK games.

The ping between me and Adon is 30-50MS (~900km away), requires only a home network and PC, no need to forward connection via hotspot or ethernet, runs throughout the network. Not planning to release but TBD, will see if I can testers in Europe or Asia. gameplay :

Extended Country Flag Mod, adds missing country flags or country names to the game, based on the Nintendo supported regions. Maybe will release it to the public, still issues with some countries with weird aspect ratios. #MK8D #NintendoSwitch

fixed aspect ratios, and re-adapting certain flags to accomodate the aspect ratio modification, some flags were modified to fit in with the same style as base game flags(color wise), will release when i have more time on my hands.
