C.S. Lewis basically predicted (and warned against) short-form global media

ALT It is one of the evils of rapid diffusion of news that the sorrows of all the world come to us every morning. I think each village was meant to feel pity for it’s own sick and poor whom it can help and I doubt if it is the duty of any private person to fix his mind on ills which he cannot help. (This may even become an escape from the works of charity we really can do to those we know). A great many people do now seem think that the mere state of being worried is in itself meritorious. I don’t think it is. We must, if it so happens, give our lives for others: but even while we’re doing it, I think we’re meant to enjoy Our Lord and, in Him, our friends, our food, our sleep, your jokes, and the birds song and the frosty sunrise.

Try to praise the mutilated world.
Remember June's long days,
and wild strawberries, drops of rosé wine.
The nettles that methodically overgrow
the abandoned homesteads of exiles.
You must praise the mutilated world.
You watched the stylish yachts and ships;
one of them had a long trip ahead of it,
while salty oblivion awaited others.
You've seen the refugees going nowhere,
you've heard the executioners sing joyfully.
You should praise the mutilated world.
Remember the moments when we were together
in a white room and the curtain fluttered.
Return in thought to the concert where music flared.
You gathered acorns in the park in autumn
and leaves eddied over the earth's scars.
Praise the mutilated world
and the gray feather a thrush lost,
and the gentle light that strays and vanishes
and returns.

See, this is what we want robots for. Clean waterways, sweep streets, etc.
A robot is cleaning rivers completely autonomously. 🌊
Meet Hebao H3, an autonomous surface-cleaning boat developed by Dongfang Water.
Using onboard AI vision and GPS, it can detect and collect floating waste such as plastic bags, bottles and leaves while avoiding obstacles.
When its collection bin is full, the H3 can automatically return to its base.
Would you trust robots to keep our rivers clean? 👀

one more nusrat thing, bc I realize I’ve never shared one of the all-time bangers, the Yokohama recording of mustt mustt, which sounds as though it came from the ground, as much of the best music does

When people would tell His Holiness Dudjom Rinpoche that they had done something virtuous, he frequently would cheerfully respond, "Yah, Yah, Yah!" And if they told him of something really bad, he gave the same response.

“It used to be that a socially avoidant woman would come for therapy saying something like, ‘I’m a painfully shy person and I need help learning how to deal better with people in social situations.’ Now a person with that concern is likely to tell me that she ‘has’ social phobia—as if an alien affliction has invaded her otherwise problem-free subjective life.”
People talk about themselves in acronyms oddly dissociated from their lived experience: ‘my OCD,’ ‘my eating disorder,’ ‘my bipolar.’
There is an odd estrangement from one’s sense of an agentic self… and consequently one’s possibilities for solving a problem.”
