Children, believed to be Angolan immigrants, who had been begging and wandering the streets of Windhoek, are no longer seen following a police operation conducted over the weekend.
NBC News established through follow-up investigations that the children were picked up by police in the early hours of Saturday morning and taken away during the operation.
Police Deputy Commissioner Kauna Shikwambi confirmed the operation, while the Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security also confirmed its involvement.
The development follows growing concern over the presence of children believed to be Angolan nationals on Windhoekโs streets, raising questions about their welfare, safety and the circumstances that brought them to Namibia.
NBC News was unable to determine the location to which they were taken.
